Fnatic has commenced their SEA 2021 DPC Season 2: Upper Division run with a substandard performance against Execration, having suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat. Fnatic was touted to have the upper hand and was expected to easily sweep the series 2-0 but Execration looked clear in their drafting strategy and clean in their gameplay execution to pull off an upset against the Singapore Major attendee. While this was Fnatic’s debut series, Execration has finally been able to grab a win in the SEA regional league after bowing down in their initial couple of series against TNC Predator and BOOM Esports.

Fnatic vs Execration: Match Recap, Highlights and Interview

Recap:

After TNC Predator handsomely took down Omega Esports in the first SEA Upper Division series of the day, Fnatic played its first match against Execration.

Game 1 saw both teams resorting to farming on their heroes in the first few minutes of the game. However, Execration came out ahead in the small teamfights which helped them gradually build up a big lead. Moon played Rubick on the mid lane which did not work out either, leading to a loss for Fnatic in 40 minutes.

Game 2 witnessed some impeccable Dota 2 gameplay coming from the side of Execration as they had stellar spellcasting and itemization combined with a great draft. They always had favorable numbers after teamfights as Fnatic had no answers to Palos’ Lifestealer. Yowe was splendid on the mid Void Spirit as well, helping his team win the match in 40 minutes.

Highlights:

Here are some highlights of the series:

Execration looked to be a completely renovated squad on the day after their rough performances against TNC Predator and BOOM Esports. If they continue to play this way, they certainly have the potency to take down other strong teams like T1 and OB.Neon. On the other hand, Fnatic is having a dispiriting period of time considering their losses in recent times. Though it is a new patch and they have just played their first series, Execration defeating a top team in the latter’s debut series is an ominous sign for Fnatic.

Interview: Execration Nikko talks about the win over Fnatic and the team’s preparations

In the post-match winners’ interview, Execration’s offlaner, Nikko "Nikko" Bilocura, mentioned that his team had not expected to clinch a victory against Fnatic while also talking about the team’s preparation plans after the initial two losses.

“I am feeling fine I guess, I mean the rest of the team is kinda hyped right now because we managed to do a 2-0 against Fnatic which we weren’t really expecting to happen.

I think we managed pretty fine after a couple of weeks of the patch. In the first series against TNC, we weren’t really used to the new map and the new meta heroes so we had to work up to the extreme and get to work as much as we can to beat at least some top-tier teams.”
