Riot Games is bringing in major changes to the surrender vote system in League of Legends with the goal of turning this in-game feature into a team-oriented one. Being a team game, the way a game progresses or ends is in the hands of four other players apart from you. Even when it comes to hitting the surrender button, you are dependent on your teammates. Solo Queue is sometimes an awful experience for most of us and players take to spamming the surrender vote every few minutes as part of their raging mechanism.

The new surrender vote changes will go live in LoL Patch 13.16 and are currently on the public beta environment (PBE).

Surrender Changes planned for LoL Patch 13.16

Early on 11th August, League product lead Chris “Auberaun” Roberts wrote, "We've got some surrender updates hitting PBE going in for 13.16. Intention here is to make surrendering more of a team action rather than 1 person spamming FF (forfeit) every 3 minutes, along with other misc improvements. We plan on doing more of this type of systems work going forward."

The changes that will go live in LoL Patch 13.16 are as follows:

1. The name of the player that started a surrender vote is no longer revealed.

2. After starting a surrender vote, the player that started the surrender vote will not be able to begin another vote for six minutes. Note, the team cooldown on calling for a surrender vote remains unchanged at 3 minutes and takes priority over individual cooldowns.

3. The surrender vote will automatically resolve when a vote can no longer pass and will no longer remain open waiting for players to vote.

4. The surrender box text has been updated to reflect the type of surrender vote being called: Surrender, AFK (away from keyboard) Surrender, or Remake.

While surrender votes can be relatively toxic if used incorrectly, these changes could make the votes even harder to pass. Many players expressed concern that they could be forced to play the games and these could lead to even worse "hostage situations" than before.

Notably, early on 8th August, Riot Games revealed the preview of LoL Patch 13.16 and this patch contains a lot of changes aimed at Assassin class items. Additionally, there are also a total of 15 champions who are getting either nerfed or buffed.

Lead Designer: League Balance Team & Preseason Matt Leung-Harrison aka Riot Phroxzon wrote, "13.16! Duskblade is a hot topic as it's picking up on non-assassins like Illaoi, Aatrox, Yorick, etc. We're bringing down its power and bringing up some of the weaker items in the assassin system. Caitlyn buffs weren't enough and we're buffing up some of the champs we overnerfed."

The patch is scheduled to go live on 16th August and all these changes are being tested on the PBE and if they do not work as intended, they will most likely not make it to the live patch.
