The Inspiring Journey of Undying DuBu from "Not Good Enough" to NA's TI10 Representative
The Inspiring Journey of Undying DuBu
Kim "DuBu" Doo-young is a veteran Dota 2 player who has contributed immensely to the Southeast Asian (SEA) and North American (NA) competitive scenes. He represented SEA teams, MVP Phoenix and Fnatic, at The International 2016 and 2019 respectively. Additionally, he has been to Dota 2’s premier stage in 2017 with an NA team - Digital Chaos - as well. DuBu has enjoyed considerable success playing for both these regions.
Dubu now plays position five for Team Undying which has officially booked a spot at The International 10 (TI10) as one of three North American participants. Undying was formed seven months ago, before the start of the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) 2021. In both regional leagues, the team only narrowly missed out to Evil Geniuses and Quincy Crew but ensured it finally made it to TI10 by winning the NA qualifier.
Undying currently doesn't have a tight competitive schedule with only one tournament lined up in the coming days - the Beyond the Summit (BTS) Pro Series Season 7: Americas.
The last six months, as mentioned, have been tough with competitors like Evil Geniuses and Quincy Crew, but all the work that they have put in over this period has finally paid dividends.
Undying’s journey from a DPC stack to NA’s TI10 representative
The Undying squad that got together at the start of DPC 2021 for the NA region had a mixture of well-known and emerging players from across regions. The first three members were David "MoonMeander'' Tan, a Dota 2 Major winner, and Jonathan Bryle "Bryle" Santos De Guia, an up-and-coming midlaner, alongside DuBu. The first two played for team CR4ZY where DuBu coached them. “It was a little difficult because the player pool in NA is pretty small,” says DuBu on assembling a team together at the start of the season.
The remaining two members were young and came from different parts of the world: Jonáš "SabeRLight-" Volek from Europe, and Enzo "Timado" Gianoli O'Connor from South America.
