Wild Rift Japan Cup 2022 Officially Announced

Riot Games Japan has officially revealed more details regarding the upcoming League of Legends: Wild Rift Japan Cup (WJC) 2022. The tournament will be held in an online format and is scheduled to kick off on 27th Feb. The WJC 2022 will feature teams clashing for the lion’s share of ¥3,000,000 Japanese Yen ($26,000 USD), for the Opening Stage alone. The prize pool for the Main Stage of the tournament is yet to be revealed by Riot Games. Registrations for the Opening Stage of the WJC 2022 will officially start on 28th Jan and will last until 10th Feb.

WJC 2022: Opening Stage

The tournament will start with the Opening Stage on 27th Feb and will run till 6th March. Registered teams will be competing on a BO1 series for the qualifiers, BO3 format in the quarterfinals and semifinals, while the grand finals will be played in a BO5 series. The WJC 2022: Opening Stage will be held online to ensure the safety of the participants and staff involved.

The top two teams from the first stage will be directly seeded in the group stage of the WJC 2022: Main Stage.

WJC 2022: Main Stage

The second stage of the tournament will also be held online, similar to the Opening Stage. The main stage will start on 2nd April and will last until 8th May. The top teams from the qualifiers of the WJC 2022: Main Stage along with the top two teams from the WJC 2022: Opening Stage.\ will proceed to its group stage.

Registration will be announced in early March. Riot Games will reveal more details as the tournament progresses.

The winning team will have the privilege of participating in the Wild Rift Icons Global Championship 2022 group stage while the runner-up team will be seeded in the play-in of the tournament.

Wild Rift Japan Cup 2022 will not accept new entries from foreign teams

To ensure the safety of all participants, the tournament will only accept teams who reside in Japan. Registered teams for the WJC 2022 must continue to have at least 60% of its starting rosters of Japanese nationality, Japanese permanent residence or special permanent residence, and players within Japan.

With the rise in popularity of Wild Rift in Japan, we might see more promising underdog teams debuting in the WJC 2022.
