The tournament location for the League of Legends: Wild Rift Icons Global Championship 2022 has finally been revealed. The pinnacle of Wild Rift competitions is set to be held in Madrid, Spain, and is scheduled to kick off on 14th June. The slot distribution for the Wild Rift Icons Global Championship 2022 has also been confirmed for all eight regional leagues. There will be a total of 24 teams from all over the world competing in the upcoming world series for the title of Wild Rift world champions. Riot Games is yet to reveal the exact format and schedule for the tournament.

Icons Global Championship 2022 slot distribution

According to a post from the official Instagram handle of Wild Rift Champions Korea (WCK) here are the slot distributions for each of the eight regional leagues.

  • Wild Rift League (WRL) China - Four teams

  • Wild Rift Champions SEA (WCS) - Four teams

  • Wild Tour Brazil (WBR): Three teams

  • Wild Rift Open Latin America (WOL) - Three teams

  • Wild Rift EMEA Championship (WEC) - Three teams

  • Wild Rift Champions Korea (WCK) - Three teams

  • Wild Rift North America Series (WNS) - Two teams

  • Wild Rift Japan Cup (WJC) - Two teams

The crowned champions from each of the regional leagues will receive a direct invite to the group stage. The other qualified teams will compete in the play-ins to decide who will earn a ticket to the next phase of the world series.

Riot Games is yet to reveal more details regarding the Wild Rift Icons Global Championship 2022. However, the tournament will have four phases - the Play-ins, Group Stage, Knockout Stage, and the Grand Finals.

The Icons Global Championship 2022 shall be the first official season for Wild Rift esports. Last year, Riot Games hosted the Horizon Cup 2021 which served as the pre-season world series for the mobile MOBA title featuring a $500,000 USD prize pool. With a growing fanbase and a bigger esports scene, it will be interesting to see who will take the first Wild Rift world series crown.
