Pros and Personalities React to BGMI Reportedly Getting Banned in India

The Indian government has reportedly imposed a ban on BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India) using a section of the Indian IT law, which includes section 69A that has provisions that allow the government to block access to content in the interest of national security.

A key point to note here is that BGMI has been developed by KRAFTON, which is a South Korean company that is backed by Tencent, a Chinese multinational technology and entertainment conglomerate that is currently the second-largest shareholder with a 15.35% stake in the company.

The move against BGMI has resulted in the Indian mobile community going into a frenzy and since then multiple players, personalities, streamers, talents, and content creators have come forward to comment on the situation.

Here is what a few of them had to say about BGMI suddenly facing such a drastic measure from the Indian government.

GHATAK

One of the biggest esports personalities in India, who is also the coach and mentor of the GodLike Esports BGMI team, Abhijeet "GHATAK" Andhare, was among the first to comment on the situation.

The 31-year-old said that this ban against BGMI was not permanent and that he hopes for the best. He also shed some light on how big esports is becoming in India and that the government "can recognize this and take a good decision. Banning the game is not a solution."

MortaL

Hands down one of the biggest gaming creators in the country, Naman "MortaL" Mathur, was also vocal against the decision of BGMI getting banned.

He pointed out how BGMI was the top esports title in India and in case it gets banned permanently the "TRUST will be broken."

Ocean Sharma

One of the leading talents from the country, Ocean Sharma, reiterated how BGMI was on national television just a few weeks back, multiple times the players from India have represented the country in global tournaments, overall content creation was at its peak, esports athletes were getting a lot of recognition, and all of it has now instantly vanished with the current situation of the game.

Rohit Jagasia

Rohit Jagasia, founder and CEO of Revenant Esports, in a statement obtained via a press release expressed that the ban is definitely a major setback for everyone involved in its ecosystem like tournament organizers, esports teams, coaches, support staff, and especially the athletes.

"However, at Revenant Esports, we will still be supporting our BGMI athletes and make sure they use our training facility to create content and try their hand at different games," said Rohit, "We have always believed in diversification and will continue to do so, we are optimistic of supporting our BGMI Athletes during these trying times."

Loco

One of the leading homegrown streaming platforms from India, Loco, also published a statement from its end acknowledging the situation and extended its support towards the Indian gaming community.

Several other players and personalities like Aadii "Dynamo" Sawant, Yogesh "RoXX" Yadav, Jonathan "JONATHAN" Amaral, Tanmay "Scout" Singh, and more have put forward their opinions across Twitter and Instagram, hoping for BGMI to return once again.

For now, the game remains unavailable across both Android and iOS markets. However, those who already have the game installed can continue playing for now.
