Blacklist International team captain, OhMyV33nus shares his struggles as an esports pro player
During Mobile Legends Professional League’s (MPL) weekly audio show/podcast, Legendary Stars in the Calamansi app, OhMyV33nus revealed his journey from being an esports enthusiast to becoming one of the best esports pro players in the Mobile Legends esports scene.
The team captain revealed that he had a hard time adjusting when he transferred from ONIC PH to Blacklist International. He and his team had a hard time performing before they could finally work as a team.
“It was very exhausting, as in,” stated OhMyV33nus. “Of course, my whole career in Mobile Legends, ONIC was my only team, and having a new team and new teammates is very tiring at the start. We had a lot of struggles before we became successful.”
These struggles were definitely worth it for Blacklist International as they finally earned their championship title in the MPL PH Season 7 after defeating Execration in the grand finals.
OhMyV33nus then recalled his days of being a small-time esports enthusiast. He would travel far just to participate in various tournaments for different games.
“I have been a certified gamer ever since I was 13 years old,” stated OhMyV33nus. “For five to seven years, almost every week, I join tournaments. I traveled for one to two hours just to participate in tournaments.”
His journey went to the point where he lost his passion for video games due to exhaustion. But that didn’t stop him from pressing forward and reaching his dream of being a professional esports player. This led him to discover Mobile Legends which he eventually switched to and found success.
“A lot of victories and losses,” stated OhMyV33nus. “You learn a lot of things in the game, how you think outside of the game, and how you get along with your teammates. Those definitely helped me excel in Mobile Legends.”
OhMyV33nus also struggled to get his parents to accept his passion for gaming. He recalled back in the day that his parents weren’t tech-savvy and found it hard to understand his chosen career.
“My whole family, they never accepted me being a gamer to the point that a lot of problems, a lot of conflicts emerged,” stated OhMyV33nus. “As in, they were never “techie” so they have no idea about video games.”
However, with the new generation slowly embracing the world of esports, parents are slowly learning how esports can also be a career worth pursuing by passionate gamers.
