The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Philippines (PH) committee is investigating the unusual match between Omega Esports and Nexplay EVOS during the MPL PH Season 8 Week 7. There were questionable intentions with regards to the way both the teams played. During the first game, Nexplay EVOS went for a five-man Flameshot team composition, then, during the second match, fans argued that Omega Esports was intentionally throwing the game because the team refused to defend their base despite still having the opportunity to do so. Game three however was a very serious match with both teams drafting appropriately. Nexplay EVOS also debuted its star rookie, Sanford “Sanford” Vinuya during game three, where he carried the team to victory.

Omega Esports and Nexplay EVOS get into trouble for allegedly not playing seriously during MPL PH Season 8

The seventh and final week of the MPL PH Season 7 regular season was littered with questionable matches. However, one of the most notable matches was between Omega Esports and Nexplay EVOS. The match was very entertaining but it looked more like an exhibition match, rather than a serious competitive match. This forced the MPL PH to dive deeper into the matter and issue an official statement stating that the committee will be investigating the matter.

“We are aware of the controversial behavior during the match of Nexplay EVOS and Omega Esports in Week 7. Please be assured that the MPL-PH Operating Committee will investigate and take necessary actions per our rule book and guidelines," stated MPL PH.

Despite the match being entertaining, it felt like both teams were not taking the match too seriously. One of the rules of the MPL states that “players are expected to compete in a professional manner. Throwing a match, halting play without cause, or showing a flagrant lack of effort will be construed as a violation of player conduct, and will result in match penalties, forfeit, and disqualification from the League.” This indicates if this situation is indeed proven to hold true, with regards to said misconduct, then the teams would be in violation of the MPL rule, leading to one or both of the teams to be in big trouble.

MPL PH stated that it will reveal the results of its investigation at a later date. For now, fans are advised to not spread toxicity or hate towards the teams involved.

“We will release more information once our investigations have concluded," stated MPL PH. "Once again, we expect all players to follow a strict code of conduct. We will work and listen to the feedback of our fans to build a more professional tournament for all.”

Both Omega Esports and Nexplay EVOS have booked their ticket to the playoffs stage which is scheduled to kick off on 21st Oct 2021. However, their journey remains murky, at least until the final verdict comes forth from the MPL PH’s investigation.
