World Championship exclusive skins are skins that can only be acquired during the World Championship events such as M1, M2, and M3.

As a new competitive season begins for the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) esports scene, Moonton has announced some big changes for the selection of future world championship exclusive skins in the mobile MOBA title. Starting with the M4 World Championship, the exclusive skin will be decided through player voting alongside the World Champion's very own special skin which shall bear the team’s branding on a hero of its choice. The marksman hero Beatrix won the M4 World Championship skin voting for this year. The hero is expected to have its regular and Prime tier World Championship skin announced during this year’s world championship which is scheduled to kick off during the fourth quarter of 2021.

Beatrix will receive the M4 World Championship exclusive skin

The M4 World Championship Exclusive Skin voting has officially concluded with the marksman Beatrix being the most voted hero. According to Moonton, a brand new exclusive M4 World Championship skin will be designed for Beatrix.

World Championship exclusive skins are skins that can only be acquired during World Championship events such as M1, M2, and M3. These skins have two variants, the regular tier and the Prime tier. These skins can be acquired through a special battle pass that only appears during World Championship events. Last year, the hero Roger was given the World Championship exclusive skins with a special figurine given to the most dedicated players who leveled up their battle pass to maximum.

Teams who take the crown in future MLBB world championship events will still have the opportunity of having a skin based on their brand similar to EVOS Legends, Bren Esports, and Blacklist International.

A Brief History of the world championship series skins in MLBB

Since the first MLBB world championship series, the winning team always got the opportunity to select a hero that would receive the special skin. During the M1 World Championship, EVOS Legends dominated the tournament and chose Harith as the hero to receive the first ever M1 exclusive skin. This was followed by the M2 World Champions, Bren Esports picking Lancelot as their hero of choice. The M3 World Championship saw Blacklist International announcing that they want Estes, the team’s iconic hero, to receive the next exclusive skin.

The Estes M3 World Championship skin debacle

Shortly after the conclusion of the M3 World Championship, the team captain of Blacklist International and one of the most influential mobile esports pro players, Johnmar “OhMyV33NUS” Villaluna revealed that the negotiation with Moonton regarding Estes getting its own world championship series skin did not go well as the publisher allegedly stated that the hero is not marketable.

This issue caused an uproar on social media with fans, pro players and even other mobile esports organizations demanding that Moonton adhere to the tradition and select Estes as the hero to receive the M3 World Championship skin.

This also caused some fans to review bomb MLBB on the Google Play Store, in turn reducing its store rating.

MLBB's rating plummeted down to 1.3 stars.

The review bombing issue has been resolved by Google and MLBB is now sitting at a 3.3 rating. Moonton also announced an official statement regarding the issue behind the Estes M3 World Championship skin. The publisher stated that it will be keeping in touch with Blacklist International to discuss the matter further.

It was later revealed by the co-owner of Blacklist International, Alodia Gosiengfiao, that Estes shall be receiving the upcoming M3 World Championship skin.

Moonton chose to go with player voting for the next world championship exclusive skin

Moonton announced that starting from this year, world championship exclusive skins will be decided through votes. More details regarding the Estes M3 World Championship skin and the Beatrix M4 World Championship exclusive skin will be revealed at a later date. Fans will have to keep their eyes peeled for more updates.

Edit note: A previous version of this article did not fully explain the differences between the World Championship exclusive hero skins and the champion heroes that the winner of each world championship receives. They're both separate skins. This clarification has since been added to the article.
