Garena has officially declared the participation of an Indian Teams in FFWS (Free Fire World Series) 2024 Global Finals set to take place in Brazil in November. Despite Free Fire being banned in India for two years, its max version remains accessible on the Google Play Store. This announcement is expected to bring joy to fans and players alike.
India's Exclusion and Inclusion
Initially, Garena included India as a participating region for the FFWS 2024 Global Finals Brazil. However, on February 17, 2024, the company removed India from the list of participating countries, leaving the status of Indian teams in the tournament unclear.
Global Participation and Tournament Format
The FFWS 2024 Brazil is set to feature 18 teams from various regions worldwide. Garena plans to conduct regional tournaments to select these teams, spanning Southeast Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, Brazil, and, originally, India. The tournament marks the sixth edition of the World Series, with the top 18 Free Fire teams competing for substantial prizes and the coveted trophy.
Garena's Plans for India
As of now, Garena has not announced any official tournaments for India. The uncertainty lies in whether Garena will release the original version or stick to the max version for events in the country. Despite the ban, Indian teams have been actively participating in third-party events, while several prominent organizations have disbanded their lineups.
Garena's Collaborations and Past Challenges
In August 2023, Garena had announced collaborations with popular Indian sports players, including MS Dhoni and Sunil Chhetri. However, the game's launch date was postponed, leading to ongoing speculation about its release. Since the inauguration of the FFWS in 2019, no Indian team has taken part in any edition of the tournament due to various challenges, including COVID-19 travel restrictions.
Roadmap for 2024
The year 2024 marks a significant shift as Indian teams are expected to participate in the FFWS after being excluded in the past three iterations. Garena's roadmap for Free Fire Esports in 2024 indicates a potential resurgence of Free Fire in the Indian gaming scene.
