In a surprising turn of events, Garena has officially announced that the Arena of Valor World Championship (AWC) 2022 will be replaced with the Arena of Valor Pro League (APL) 2022. The upcoming event will kick off sometime in November and will feature a massive prize pool. The upcoming APL 2022 event will have 12 teams from four Garena Leagues for Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia competing for the championship title. Garena also revealed that the grand finals will be held offline and will be open to live audiences. The APL 2022 will also serve as Arena of Valor’s (AoV) 6th-anniversary special event.
APL 2022 Details
According to a blog post from Garena Taiwan, the APL 2022 will replace the previously announced AWC 2022. Garena is yet to announce if the world series event will be officially canceled or simply moved to a later date.
The upcoming event will feature a total of 12 teams from the following regional leagues:
Garena Challenger Series - Taiwan
Arena of Glory Division - Vietnam
RoV Pro League Division- Thailand
AoV Star League (ASL) - Indonesia
Each participating region will have three teams competing for the championship title and the lion’s share of the $1 Million USD prize pool.
Fans should take note that Arena of Valor is the international adaptation of Honor of Kings (HoK), the Chinese version of the mobile MOBA title. However, HoK has recently been released globally, allowing a world series to take place.
HoK will still have its world series event with a $10 Million USD prize pool
Without the AWC 2022, the Honor of Kings World Championship Cup will serve as the world series event for both titles featuring teams from around the world competing for the massive $10 Million USD prize pool. The tournament is set to be held offline but the exact location is yet to be revealed. Various regional qualifiers will determine which teams will be heading to the world series event to represent their region.
