After an intense rematch between the two Philippine MLBB teams in the grand finals of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Southeast Asia Cup 2021 (MSC 2021), Execration took the trophy of champions. Their victory comes after a dominating performance against MPL PH Season 7 champion Blacklist International. In a post-match conference for the MSC 2021, the team shared their thoughts on how they took down Blacklist International this time around. Execration’s head coach Jomie “Pakbet” Abalos stated that they intentionally picked and banned heroes that Blacklist International regularly plays. This way, the team could restrict the number of Blacklist’s comfort heroes and potentially weaken the team in the process. He also noted that his team had an easy drafting phase due to how predictable Blacklist International’s picks were.

How Execration Defeated Blacklist International at MSC 2021

After falling at the hands of Blacklist International in the MPL PH Season 7, Execration had their sweet revenge in the MSC 2021 as they dominated the grand finals with a score of 4-1. This victory was much sweeter due to the fact that Execration was the only team in the MSC 2021 to have defeated Blacklist International.

In a post-match conference, Execration’s head coach Jomie “Pakbet” Abalos shared the team’s strategy that was used to defeat Blacklist International in the grand finals.

"I think the key to victory against Blacklist was to copy their strategy because it’s so strong against assassin meta. That's why we banned Aldous and gave them the marksman while fighting them with our assassin. We combined their strategy with our own gameplay, and I think that’s how we won against them," Pakbet stated.

The coach also added that Blacklist International rarely uses assassins in their lineup which makes them very predictable and easy to counter draft.

Execration’s veteran member and non-turtle laner, Billy "Z4pnu" Alfonso also stated that Blacklist International’s meta was very hard to counter. He went on to state that Execration only managed to win because they were scrimming with them before the tournament started, which gave them crucial intel on Blacklist’s playstyle and potential counters.

“Blacklist International’s meta was very hard to beat. We only managed to recover when we started doing scrim matches against them,” stated Z4pnu.

Pakbet concluded his statement by saying that Execration’s team roster may remain intact for the upcoming MPL PH Season 8. For now, they will all go on a vacation and celebrate their hard-earned victory at the MSC 2021.
