Free Style Players Join Portal Esports’ New PUBG Mobile Lineup

Pakistani esports organisation Portal Esports is quickly becoming the country’s premier gaming platform, hosting its own tournaments and teams. Now, the organisation has taken a step to bolster it’s presence in the Pakistani PUBG Mobile scene by signing on a new lineup consisting of ex-players from popular Pakistani team Free Style. Portal took to social media and uploaded an Instagram story announcing this development. The organisation has picked up Baba, Malik, Kashoof, Murtaza and Motu from the Free Style lineup.
Free Style has competed with Portal Esports in past PMCOs in Pakistan and come out on top, dominating the competition.
Free Style’s Run Before Portal Esports
2020 was a year filled with ups and downs for Free Style. The team started the year off on a high note, winning PUBG Mobile Club Open - Spring Split 2020: Pakistan and becoming one of the first two teams to qualify for PMWL East. However, Pakistan decided to issue a temporary ban on the game in July, leaving their bid to win big in PMWL East in shambles as this left them at a disadvantage while qualifying for the Super Weekends. Despite this, the team eventually rejoined play after the ban lifted and managed to place 17th in the PUBG Mobile World League 2020 - Season 0: East, walking away with $4,000.
The team slipped down a few spots on the leaderboard to 9th place in the PUBG Mobile Club Open - Fall Split 2020: Pakistan in September 2020 before being picked up by Indian organisation Stalwart Esports who were reluctant to give up their slot in the PMPL South Asia S2, 2020. Stalwart started looking for talents in other South Asian teams. Initially, they planned to sign a team from Nepal, however, that didn’t pan out. Freestyle’s roster initially approached Stalwart since due to network issues in the region, they had failed to secure a spot for PMPL S2.

About Portal Esports
Starting in 2016, Portal Esports has been working hard to bolster esports in Pakistan, having hosted several tournaments for PUBG Mobile, FIFA and Call of Duty: Mobile. The organisation also had a CS:GO squad which disbanded in 2019.
After being associated with brands like Zalmi and organizing events they made quite a name for themselves in the country. However, after Portal closed their gaming zone in Lahore, it set up a dedicated esports boot camp facility in the city of lights, Karachi. Portal made the announcement on their social media stating, “The goal is to set up the perfect environment for professional teams. accommodation, practice rooms with state of the art equipment, managers, international coaching, multiple internet connections, power back up”. Now we’re really excited about the “international coaching” part and curious to see which coaches or players they will bring in for the role. The organisation has also focused on CS:GO, DOTA 2, Fortnite, and PUBG in the past.
