Petition To Unban Mobile Legends In India Reaches Over 72,000 Signatures

On 29th June, the Indian Government decided to ban over 50 Chinese apps including Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, the popular Mobile MOBA. This prompted the game’s developer Moonton to start talks with the Indian government to restore services for Indian players, adding that it is their top priority to ensure user’s data privacy and security. It has been over 5 months since the game’s ban and as of now, there seems to be no sign of the game getting unbanned any time soon. This led a Mobile Legends fan in the country to put up a petition on Change.org to get the game unbanned. The petition currently has 72,298 signatures and is very close to its goal of 75,000.
What Does The ‘Unban Mobile Legends In India’ Petition Say?
User Bolex laimayum has addressed this petition to the Prime Minister of India saying that ‘while Mobile Legends is a game published and developed in Shanghai its development company is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.’ It goes on to say that Mobile Legends has ‘many players from India and they also contribute so much to the Indian esports’. The petitioner goes on to say that Indian esports depends on Mobile Legends as much as they do on PUBG Mobile.

Is It Likely That Mobile Legends Will Get Unbanned?
While there has been news of Chinese companies collecting data, the government press release announcing the ban stated that these apps were ‘engaged in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of state and public order’. The Ministry of Information Technology said it had received "many representations raising concerns from citizens regarding the security of data and risk to privacy relating to the operation of certain apps”.
As of now, none of the over 200+ apps have been unbanned. PUBG Corp. is working hard to make changes to PUBG Mobile and has even distanced itself from Tencent to ensure its return to India. While they have received approval from the Ministry of External Affairs, the game is still to get approval from the Ministry of Information and Technology, which originally put the ban in place. There has been no new activity on the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang - IN Facebook page since 1st July where Moonton gave out an update regarding the ban.
As of now, Moonton seems to be prioritizing combating its upcoming competitor Wild Rift in the Southeast Asia region over other projects so it looks like Indian fans will have to wait for a decisive move from the company. Until Moonton’s Chinese connections still exist, it is highly unlikely that the Indian Government will entertain their requests for an unban.
