Riot’s Valorant is one of the few shooters that has managed to give Counter-Strike: Global Offensive a run for its money. However, Riot seems to have a bigger plan up its sleeve. The Valorant developers seem to be setting their sights on the mobile market.
In the latest 1.08 patch, there are a string of mobile UI codes that have been found in the game’s files. These files have been accessed and leaked by Valorant data miners and there is a string of code that has been added. It reads “action to perform when double-tapping on the right side of the screen” which strongly suggests that a mobile release could be in the works.
Riot Is ‘Exploring’ More Options, Including Mobile, For A While
This is not the first time we’ve seen code that may indicate a mobile launch or console for Valorant. @ValorantLeaked had previously released images on Twitter showing iOS and Android settings and Valorant Game Director Joe Ziegler had previously spoken to Express Online saying that Riot was open to releasing the game on other platforms at some point. "While we are exploring other platforms like console and mobile, right now the team is working hard to deliver a top-notch experience on PC,” he said.
Riot Games is now building aiming to get a piece of that mobile pie, while simultaneously cementing its legacy in the MOBA and FPS world of PC. If all these teasers are to be believed, we certainly could be looking at a potential gamechanger. Riot Games has aggressively pushed into the mobile market with League of Legends: Wild Rift, an introduction of the world’s most popular game onto mobile, slated for release this year. Its beta has been well-received as well. Legends of Runeterra is another game that has made its way onto mobile. Will Valorant also join the leagues of Wild Rift and Legends of Runeterra and head to mobile? Stay tuned for future updates.
