On 27th May, Krafton announced via a release that India’s favorite battle royale game – Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) – is available for preloading currently. However, the publisher made it clear that the game shall be available for playing a couple of days later on 29th May. Players should also note that preloading is only available on Android devices and iOS users can download and play BGMI from the App Store only on 29th May.
In this article, we will see what a preload actually is and how to preload BGMI in particular.
BGMI Preload: How to do it?
A lot of players opened up the Play Store in excitement assuming that the game is available for play without actually knowing what a preload is. Preload or preloading is when players are allowed and able to download a game before it has actually been released. Eventually, when the game comes out, the ones who have preloaded the game can instantly play it without having to download it on launch day.
In this case, BGMI is currently available for preloading on Android devices alone. If you cannot spot the preload option on the Play Store page, it could be due to the game automatically updating on your device. Addressing this, Krafton said, “Few users may have received an automatic update from midnight, this is a part of the preload process, and you have nothing to worry [about].”
However, if you are able to see the option, here’s how you preload BGMI on your Android device:
Go to the Play Store and look up BGMI
If you already have the game on your device, you will see the ‘Update’ button
Click on Update
You will notice that the game will update for 791 MB on the Play Store
Click on Play once it has been updated
You will be taken inside the game
Here, another update for 1079 MB will happen
Once it has finished, you will see an announcement from Krafton saying that the servers are down and that the game will be available soon.
Krafton, in its release, said it is anticipating an overwhelming number of downloads and as a result, it will stagger the availability and playability of BGMI. Krafton reiterated that this approach will ensure that all players enjoy the game seamlessly without interruptions.
Krafton confirmed that the new BGMI update will introduce a new map to the game alongside many more interesting in-game events and more. However, players should keep in mind that BGMI is not back permanently but is back on a three-month trial where the Indian Government will keep close tabs on user harm and addiction before making a final decision regarding the game's permanent status.
