Who is Yaoshi in Honkai Star Rail?

Yaoshi in Honkai Star Rail is one of the celestial beings known as Aeons in the lore. She has been mentioned in various Simulated Universe Dev Logs, often portrayed as an entity that bestows immortality to anyone who seeks it. However, the consequences of having eternal life come at a cost and can be worse than death itself. Characters who follow the path related to Yaoshi possess healing capabilities. Some of these characters also posses cleansing abilities that can remove crowd control effects on allies. Who is Yaoshi in Honkai Star Rail?

Yaoshi in Honkai Star Rail is introduced in the game as the Aeon of Abundance. She is described as a being with six arms, a tail that curls like a scorpion's, and antler-like growths resembling branching trees atop her head. Mysterious red eyes with black sclera peer out from various parts of her body, adding to her enigmatic allure.

In the lore, the Aeon of Abundance gave a tree that bore a fruit that bestowed immortality to the people of the Xianzhou Luofu. However, immortality came at a heavy price which the residents called “Mara.” People who are Mara-Struck will be engulfed in negative emotions and will lose their humanity, transforming them into monsters. 

This is the reason why most residents of the Xianzhou Luofu consider the Aeon of Abundance in Honkai Star Rail as the “Plagues Author” and despise her. Lan, the Aeon of The Hunt, also swore to cleanse the universe of the plague that Yaoshi brought forth.

One of the main antagonistic factions in the Xianzhou Luofu story arc in the game, the Disciples of Sanctus Medicus, follows Yaoshi in Honkai Star Rail as they consider immortality as a gift. 

While various factions have different views regarding the Aeon of Abundance, it still remains a mystery if she has good or bad intentions when she introduced immortality to the citizens of the Xianzhou Luofu.
