Highlights
Before the fourth generation, it wasn’t possible for Yanma to evolve. However, that is not the case in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet The Teal Mask.
Now, you can evolve Yanma to Yanmega by following a certain procedure.
In this article, we’ll guide you through the process of evolving Yanma to Yanmega.

The expansive Pokémon Scarlet and Violet The Teal Mask DLC has given fans a sneak peek into the dynamic Pokéverse. But more than that, it has also introduced returning Pokémon with evolutionary abilities, which wasn’t possible for them in previous generations. This includes the bug-type Pokémon called Yanma.

You can find Yanma wandering around the Kitakami Road in the wild. While they aren’t the strongest of Pokémon, they can still display exhilarating qualities with the right training. As is the case with any other Pokémon, you may want to evolve Yanma into Yanmega. While that is possible in the DLC, it still follows a unique procedure.

In this article, we’ll present a step-by-step guide to evolving Yanma to Yanmega. But first, let’s learn how you can capture Yanma when you see one.

How to Capture Yanma?

Yanma

In order to capture Yanma, you must know the right places to find it. Luckily, this is one of the first Pokémon that you will come across in the game in the Kitakami region. It can be found in the vicinity of the rice paddies in the Kitakami area or near the field around the bus stop.

Here are the areas where you can spot it:

  • Kitakami Road

  • Apple Hills

  • Oni Mountain

  • Kitakami Wilds

  • Wistful Fields

Once you have spotted Yanma, it's time to catch it. Doing so is not that hard, given that it’s a bug-type Pokémon. You can capture Yanma with a Net Ball. Players can either inflict health damage on it or impact it with status conditions.

Now that you have captured Yanma, it's time to know how you can evolve it to Yanmega.

Evolving Yanma to Yanmega

In order to trigger Yanma’s evolution, a specific set of conditions must be fulfilled. This requires a leveled-up Yanma so that it becomes easier to train it. However, if your Yanma is still at an early stage, you need to level it up through battles.

To evolve Yanma, it must be trained to know the Ancient Power move. This is easier for Yanma, who is at a higher level compared to those in their early stages. The Ancient Power move is essentially a Rock-Type move that can accelerate Yanma’s in-battle stats by one level. When Yamna reaches the significant milestone of level 33, it automatically learns the Ancient Power. If your Yanma was captured at a level higher than 33, then you can simply manipulate the settings to make it remember that. Follow the given steps to do so:

  1. Press the X button and open the menu.

  2. Locate Yanma’s name and then select ‘Summary’.

  3. Navigate to the "Moves and Stats" page and press the A-button.

  4. Choose "Remember Moves" and replace one of Yanma's existing moves with "Ancient Power."

Now, Yanma will be able to remember the Ancient Power move, which will further accelerate the evolution process when Yanma levels up again. You can do so by using it in battles or feeding it Rare Candy. After Yanma evolves, it is not necessary to keep the Ancient Power move. You can navigate back to the settings and still change it.

This is all you need to know about evolving Yanma in the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet The Teal Mask DLC.
