After more than a decade, RPG fans are finally getting the highly awaited sequel Dragon’s Dogma 2, a follow-up to the critically acclaimed 2012 game. This sequel will feature significant enhancements to the graphics while also showcasing overhauled mechanics and class systems to provide an enticing gameplay experience for its players.

Besides these improvements, fans are also wondering if Dragon’s Dogma 2 will offer a re-imagined version of the well-known “Beloved” romance system, featured in the first game. Let’s jump right in and explore everything we know about the relationship dynamics in the upcoming sequel.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Will Most Likely Feature a Dedicated Romance System

As mentioned above, the Beloved System in the 2012 Dragon’s Dogma is essentially a romance mechanic that works by increasing your affinity or connection with a specific character in the game. These NPCs were fixed which means it was not possible to date any character you picked.

Additionally, there was a gifting mechanic that helped you increase your affinity towards that character by offering them items like Rings as gifts. You also had to complete specific quests for that character to further increase your relationship status.

What Can We Expect From Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Romance System?

While it is certain that there is a new Romance mechanic in Dragnon’s Dogma 2, it is unknown whether it will be an overhauled version of the existing “Beloved” system or an entirely new Romance system altogether.

The game will also feature a “jealousy” system, where the NPCs you are romancing, will get jealous and even threaten the other character you are dating. This happens when you follow the same routine of events with both these partners.

Here are all the confirmed and possible aspects that might be present in the new/ overhauled romance system in Dragon’s Dogma 2:

  • The game already has four pre-existing Romance partners tied within the Dogma Campaign. These are Ulrika, Brant, Wilhelmina, and Doireann.

  • For the first time ever in the series, Dragon’s Dogma 2 will feature mildly sexual scenes that will cut to black as the scene escalates, as mentioned in the M ratings for the game, reported by PushSquare.

  • A short cutscene in the game depicts “the player sitting on a bed with a prostitute (both wearing underwear) before the camera fades to black. One cutscene briefly depicts characters kissing and rolling around in bed (no nudity).”, as mentioned by USA’s ratings board.

  • Dragon’s Dogma 2 will retain the gifting mechanic where you can increase their affinity with their favorite characters by offering them gifts. This was known even when the deluxe edition’s contents were revealed, mentioning a “Heartfelt Pendant” that can be given as a Gift.

  • You will also witness an intricate NPC relationship system, where they can form bonds with one another, adding a layer of immersion to the game.
