Who Is the Guardian in Baldur’s Gate 3?
When you are about to start your journey in Baldur’s Gate 3, the game lets you choose a custom or Origin (premade) character and then it asks you to create a Guardian. The Guardian in Baldur’s Gate 3 is a secondary character that you need to make but they do not join you on your journey when the story first begins. If you are wondering who the Guardian is and do not mind getting the story spoiled a little, read on to find out more about the mysterious entity.
The Guardian’s significance in Baldur’s Gate 3
The Guardian is a non-playable character. When you customize the appearance of your Guardian, the game will now let you choose a class which makes it clear that they will appear only in the story and not as a Companion.
The Guardian makes her debut in the story after you use your Illithid powers a few times and take a Long Rest at your camp. They will appear in your story and let you know that they are watching over you. You will be conflicted and it is up to the players to decide if it is just your Illithid powers playing mind games with you, or if the Guardian is a real entity.
You find out from the Guardian that if you manage to take control of the parasite, you will be able to prevent yourself from turning into a Mind Flayer or even save all of Faerun. When you wake up after the dream, you will find out that it was not just you that had the dream, but your Companions were affected as well.
Later in the story, the Guardian reveals that they are able to protect you from being infected because they suffered the same fate in the past. Whether you choose to trust the Guardian in Baldur’s Gate 3’s campaign is totally up to you.
We chose to tap into the Illithid powers once in a while and ended up meeting the Guardian. If you do not tap into your Illithid powers at all, it might be possible that you do not meet the Guardian at all during your playthrough.
