Lucio is one of the original support heroes in Overwatch 2 and quite popular among fans for his unique kit and easy-going personality. Veteran players are all too familiar with the number on Lucio's HUD in Overwatch. However, for new players, it may not be so intuitive. Let’s look at what the number on Lucio’s HUD in Overwatch represents.
What's the number on Lucio's HUD in Overwatch?
The number in the center of Lucio’s HUD lets you know how many of your teammates (excluding yourself) are under the effect of your AOE heal/movement buff. If the number is 5, then your whole team is getting Lucio’s aura buffs. If no one is getting the buff, the number disappears. Keeping track of the number is crucial for game-changing plays like before deploying Lucio’s ultimate, Sound Barrier. Players should keep a lookout for a faint yellow-green aura which washes over the environment around you. It shows you the approximate radius of your AOE heal and movement.
Lucio changes in Overwatch 2
Lucio’s kit has remained pretty much the same since Overwatch 1. In Overwatch 2, Lucio gets his Ultimate faster, although his ability to heal himself with his Crossfade ability has been nerfed. Additionally, he can now self-heal an additional 15 HP/second due to the new support hero passive. This means he isn’t as efficient in healing himself anymore. Here are the stats of the change:
Crossfade: Self-healing penalty increased from 30% to 60%.
Sound Barrier: Ultimate cost reduced 7%.
Tips to playing Lucio in Overwatch 2
Lucio is arguably the strongest support hero in Overwatch 2. His kit is stacked, providing both healing and movement speed. He can skate out of reach or wall-ride to avoid danger and he has a knockback which, if timed right, can push enemies off the map. His ultimate rounds out his kit providing a massive shield which can tank the damage of otherwise devastating ultimates like D.Va’s Self-Destruct. Here are some tips on how to use him well:
Save Lucio’s Amp Up Speed Aura for chasing down kills, retreating, or getting in the opponent's face. You can even use it to give your whole team a speed boost as you’re making your way towards checkpoints or the payload.
Your Sound Wave is great for both disrupting enemies by getting in their faces and to push them away from you or off ledges.
Save your ultimate for high-damage enemy ultimates like Reaper’s Death Blossom or Cassidy’s Dead Eye.
