Riot MMORPG: News, Expected Release Date, and Everything We Know About The Game So Far
Popular game development studio Riot Games is known for its esports-focused titles like League of Legends and Valorant which have amassed millions of players worldwide and it still continues to develop and shine through. For a while now, it has been rumored that the studio is working on a brand new MMORPG that is supposedly set in the fictional League of Legends world of Runeterra. With the amount of speculation going around online, it is certainly one of the most anticipated projects from the developer, just alongside an upcoming fighting game from them, called Project L.
Unfortunately, Riot Games has been completely silent about the status of this title apart from the fact that the game is an MMO based on LoL’s Runeterra. Let’s take a look at everything we know so far about this upcoming MMO.
What Is the Expected Release Date of Riot’s MMORPG?
While Riot Games is yet to make an announcement on the release date, we expect this highly anticipated MMORPG to release sometime between late 2025 and early 2026. This is simply based on the fact that an MMO must encompass a variety of content and features and creating the entirety of it is certainly a process that takes quite a bit of time. This expected release date is based on discussions found in online forums, reliable leakers, etc. At the very least, the fans are expecting the release of a closed beta by the aforementioned date.
Riot Is Still Recruiting Developers for Their Upcoming MMO
Considering the fact that the recruitment page for the upcoming title is still live, we can expect that the game is quite a while away. Creating an MMO is quite a challenging task as it certainly requires a lot of talented hands on board and understandably so, the studio is on the lookout for talented Gameplay Engineers, Game Designers, UX Designers, and several other roles.
What Character Classes and Sub-Classes Can We Expect From Riot’s MMORPG?
As we already know, this upcoming title is heavily based on the existing League of Legends universe which already has an array of well-known characters. We can expect the studio to develop new characters inspired by them. Here are all the races you can select:
Yordle
Ascended
Celestial
Dragon
Human
Vastaya
Wolf
Undead
Spirit
Void Born
Minotaur
Golem
Here are all the possible classes that will be present in the new MMO:

Mage
Bruiser
Enchanter
Marksman
Controller
Tank
Slayer
Fighter
What Areas Can Players Hope to Explore in the New MMORPG?
As we have already established, this upcoming game is set in the world of Runeterra as part of the League of Legends universe. Currently, the world offers 13 different regions that players can traverse through. They are:
The Void
Targon
Shurima
Ixtal
Noxus
Bandle City
Demacia
Zaun
Bilgewater
Ionia
Pitover
The Freljord
Will Riot’s Upcoming MMORPG Be Free to Play?
Judging by past titles from the studio we can be quite sure that the forthcoming MMO will also be available free of cost. Riot makes its money mainly by selling cosmetic items like weapons and character skins, etc. This has been the case on most titles such as Valorant, League of Legends, TFT, Wild Rift, and more.
We really hope that the studio does not turn to the pay-to-win direction that several other developers have implemented in their games.
What Can Be Expect From the Game’s Story and Gameplay?
Most MMO players and LoL fans have agreed that the lore might be tied to the elements of Runeterra’s story and lore. League of Legends arguably has one of the most polished and complex narratives and lore out of any video game. Considering the success received by Arcane, it is highly possible that this MMO will take after the League of Legends lore.
Riot will most likely feature gameplay based on exploration and dungeon crawling. The studio has already talked about the end-game expectations which will supposedly feature dungeons and raids. As the end-game phase is one of the most important aspects of an MMO, we can expect the studio to create a very enticing and exhilarating end-game experience.
That is pretty much all the information we have on the highly anticipated MMORPG from Riot Games. Do note that the region and classes were inspired by data provided by EarlyGame and Sportskeeda.
