Hardcore Fans of Rockstar have been highly anticipating the arrival of a possible Red Dead Redemption remake following several leaks and rumors that have been circulating online. The game was launched all the way back in 2010 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and several fans figured that it was about time for a remake or a remastered version of the game releasing for PC and the current-gen consoles. Considering the success and popularity of RDR 2, most leaks hinted towards a remake of the first game made on the latest iteration of Rockstar’s RAGE engine.
Red Dead Redemption will be released on 17th August for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation but there’s also a big catch to it.
The New Red Dead Redemption Is Simply Just a Re-Release
Yes, you read that right. RDR 1 might feature slightly enhanced visuals but it is not even close to being a remake or even a remastered version of the game. Here’s the official announcement trailer from Rockstar themselve
Understandably, many fans have been utterly disappointed with Rockstar’s decision as they were hoping to see the game make it to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The developer has partnered with Double Eleven Studios to bring forward this new “conversion” to the Switch and PlayStation4.
Red Dead Redemption Price
Red Dead Redemption will feature both the original game and the Undead Nightmare expansion. The game will cost $49.99 USD on the Nintendo eShop and PlayStation Store. The digital edition will be available from 17th August while the physical version is set to launch on 13th October.
Note that there is no official announcement about the inclusion of the game’s online multiplayer mode returning with this re-release.
Can You Still Run Read Dead Redemption on Current-Gen Consoles and PC?
PlayStation users can still run Red Dead Redemption through the backward compatibility feature present on the current-gen console. The game can be purchased directly from the PlayStation Store and it will run on both the PS4 and PS5.
Xbox users can also still run the Xbox 360 version of the game through the backward compatibility for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
Unfortunately, PC gamers have no way to officially run the game on their system as there was never a PC port of the game. Rockstar has made no official announcement regarding this which further adds to the disappointment.
