Another captivating quest is out now and it is none other than the Showdown in the Shadows quest. It is the latest addition to the ongoing Team Go Rocket storyline. It is a spine-tingling experience, pushing players to confront Team Go Rocket Grunts, Leaders, and ultimately, Giovanni himself.

Completing tasks in this quest will unveil a variety of new rewards that can be a valuable addition to your line of Halloween goodies in Pokémon Go. However, before embarking on this journey, players will have to complete the previous Team Go Rocket related research quests. In this article, we’ll take a deep dive into the Showdown in the Shadows quest and take a look at the steps you need to follow to complete the tasks. 


What is the Pokémon Go 'Showdown in the Shadows' Quest?

This is part of the second half of the 2023 Halloween event in Pokémon Go, which promises a range of Halloween-themed rewards as well as other benefits to the players. Anyone who wishes to partake in this quest must complete the preceding quests, like ‘A Shadowy Disturbance’. If you haven’t completed the previous quests, don’t worry because the Showdown quest will be available until the next Giovanni encounter. 

This quest offers a chain of ghost-type encounters along with an encounter with Shadow Regigigas. And if things go well, you may even have a chance to catch it!


Steps to Complete the Showdown in the Shadows Quest

Step 1

  • Catch 15 Pokémon (Rewards: 5 Pinap Berries)

  • Spin 5 Poké Stops or Gyms (Rewards: 10 Poké Balls)

  • Defeat 3 Team Go Rocket Grunts (Rewards: 1 Mysterious Component)

Successful completion of this step will reward you with 1,000 XP, 1,000 Stardust, and an encounter with the Pokémon Phantump.

Step 2

  • Catch 15 Pokémon (Rewards: 5 Pinap Berries)

  • Transfer 10 Pokémon (Rewards: 10 Great Balls)

  • Defeat 6 Team Go Rocket Grunts (Rewards: 3 Mysterious Components)

Successful completion of this step will reward you with 1,500 XP, 1,500 Stardust, and an encounter with the Galarian Yamask.

Step 3

  • Defeat Team Go Rocket Leader Arlo (2,500 XP)

  • Defeat Team Go Rocket Leader Cliff (2,500 XP)

  • Defeat Team Go Rocket Leader Sierra (2,500 XP)

Successful completion of this step will reward you with 2,500 XP, 300 Stardust, and a Super Rocket Radar.

Step 4

  • Find the Team Go Rocket Boss (Rewards: 10 Max Potions)

  • Battle the Team Go Rocket Boss (Rewards: 10 Ultra Balls)

  • Defeat the Team Go Rocket Boss (Rewards: 6 Max Revives)

Successful completion of this step will reward you with 3,000 XP, 3,000 Stardust, and an encounter with Gengar.

Step 5

  • Claim reward (2,500 XP)

  • Claim reward (2,500 XP)

  • Claim reward (2,500 XP)

Successful completion of this step will reward you with 5,000 XP, 4,500 Stardust, and 2 Silver Pinap Berries.


This special Giovanni Research will be available till 1st December 2023, 10 AM local time. You must claim these tasks and complete them before the given date. This is because new quests are usually introduced every three months and you might not be able to access them if the previous ones are incomplete. So, go out there and defeat the boss for exciting rewards!
