What are Raid Battles in Pokemon Go?
Raid Battles are triggered when a Boss Pokemon takes over a nearby Gym. You can look for nearby Raid Battles by looking for eggs at your local gyms that are about to hatch. You can also spot Boss Pokemon at a gym if a raid is ongoing. These Bosses are very hard to take down alone so we recommend you team up with other trainers in order to successfully take out a Pokemon Go Raid Boss.
It's worth the time and effort to finish raid battles. Not only do you have the opportunity to capture the Pokemon you defeated but you may also receive rare items. These are sometimes exclusive Legendaries for 5-Star Raids that you won't find anywhere else.
Niantic hosts a unique Raid Hour every week to increase players' chances of capturing the current 5-Star Raid Pokemon. Every gym with a raid will have 5-Star raid bosses.
Raid Hours are scheduled for every Wednesday between 6 PM and 7 PM at your local time. This means you won’t have to worry about time conversions for different zones. Raids are a great way to get out there and catch a Legendary.
How to take part in Raid Battles in Pokemon Go?
In order to take part in a Raid Battle, you need a Raid Pass. You can get one Raid Pass every day by spinning a Photo Disc at any Gym. If you run out, you can purchase a Premium Raid Pass from the Shop. Niantic has also added Remote Raid Passes that let you join nearby Raid Battles without leaving your current location. Remote Raid Passes can be bought from the Shop, or received as free gifts every now and then.
