As Payday 3's matchmaking issues continue, Starbreeze Studios is looking into adding an offline mode.
Starbreeze Studios CEO Tobias Sjögren tweeted to address concerns about Payday 3's online requirement and the possibility of an offline mode.

As a result of its horrendous and unplayable launch, Starbreeze Studios is considering an offline mode for its latest heist-shooter, Payday 3.

Released on 21st September 2023, Payday 3 comes as the latest installment in the Payday franchise, a heist-based FPS developed by Starbreeze Studios. What first looked like an exciting new addition to the franchise quickly turned into a disaster, with server issues frustrating players. As a result, the studio is now considering the possibility of adding an offline game mode for Payday 3. Here's what you need to know.

Payday 3: Starbreeze Studios Might Add an Offline Mode

Payday 3 is an online heist game, but playing solo with AI is possible. However, players are required to be online. Since there's a need to be always online, server crashes are preventing players from logging into the game.

Starbreeze Studios has issued a statement blaming large quantities of players who are trying to get into the game as being too much for the matchmaking. Despite a fix being launched this week, the update seems to have caused more instability in the infrastructure.

Starbreeze Studios' CEO Tobias Sjögren touched on Payday 3's potential move away from being an always-online game.

There's an official statement from Sjögren: "We are disappointed in the issues our playerbase has faced during our launch weekend, but we are confident in our core product and the quality of Payday 3 – and all available metrics point to it. We have a lot of diligent and consistent work ahead of us to regain community trust, but we will work hard to do it."

In a new statement, the studio said: "The issue in question did not manifest during Technical Betas or Early Access due to the specificity of rapid user influx and load-balancing. Starbreeze is currently evaluating all options, both short- and long-term. In the short-term, this means Starbreeze's focus is to ensure the player experience. In the long-term, this means evaluating a new partner for matchmaking services and making Payday 3 less dependent on online services."

Starbreeze Studios is right now considering the possibility of adding some sort of offline mode. This will certainly be a good addition for those players who wish to play Payday 3 solo, as the game would be less dependent on online servers.

Right now, Payday 3 has dropped to a "Mostly Negative" review score on Steam, and unless these matchmaking issues are fully resolved, that score won't be going up, and players will not be able to experience what Payday 3 has to offer.
