No, There Is No $100 Billion Lawsuit Against Baldur’s Gate 3 Developer Larian Studios
Larian’s newest launch Baldur’s Gate 3 has become immensely successful, topping the Steam charts with 800,000+ concurrent players The game also received a Metacritic score of 97 which is no ordinary feat. The game has set a new standard for the Roleplaying genre and we will not be surprised to see upcoming RPG games following the footsteps of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Unfortunately, there are certain influencers who have also attempted to capitalize on the rising fame of BG3. There is a fraudulent lawsuit circulating on the internet that claims Larian Studios is being sued for $100 Billion by EA, Ubisoft, and Activision-Blizzard. Let’s take a further look at this absurd claim.
Larian’s $100 Billion Lawsuit Claim Originates From Tik-Tok
A Tik-Tok account that goes by Stazima posted on the platform claiming that Larian Studios has made a big mistake by raising the bar too high with Baldur’s Gate 3. The video goes over what seems to be a legal document with the claim being that Activision- Blizzard, Ubisoft, and EA are ‘slapping’ Larian with a defamation lawsuit for a whopping $100 Billion USD as they defamed the game industry by making a game that ‘actually works’ and for unfairly raising expectations for players, that the other companies cannot match.
The Tik-Tok also ends with the question “Do you think Larian Studios should stop terrorizing innocent Indie devs?” which makes it very evident that this was posted with the intention of being a joke. Even though most of the comments do agree that this is fake and satirical, the video has riled up a lot of Baldur’s Gate fans as well.
If you are still confused by all of this, no, Larian Studios is not getting sued for making too good of a game. There is no defamation lawsuit for $100 Billion USD and the entire Tik-Tok was made with the intention of being a satire. It is completely absurd to think that developers would sue each other for exceeding expectations.
Currently the Tik-Tok has over 27,000 Likes, 4,000 Shares, and over a thousand comments some of which are from angry fans.
