Netflix is trying to expand its presence in gaming by introducing streamable games for phones, computers and TVs.
The beta is currently available in Canada and the UK only and there is no official release date for the global audience yet.

Livestreaming service Netflix is no stranger to games. The service started introducing mobile games as part of its subscription service in 2021 and it is currently looking to expand its service to more devices. Starting today, the platform will work towards making games accessible on any device that supports Netflix - including TVs, computers and mobile, via streaming. This new feature is currently in beta and will expand to other regions shortly.

Netflix has commenced its limited beta test with two games

Netflix is commencing a limited beta test that involves a select group of members in Canada and the UK. This beta will be accessible on specific televisions starting today, with availability on PCs and Macs via Netflix.com through supported browsers in the coming weeks.

The initial test will encompass two games: "Oxenfree" from Night School Studio, a part of Netflix Game Studio, and "Molehew’s Mining Adventure," an arcade-style gem-mining game. To facilitate gameplay on TVs, Netflix will turn people’s smartphones into controllers as part of the new project.

This limited beta phase is intended to assess Netflix’s game streaming technology and controllers while progressively enhancing the member experience. The gaming experience on televisions will be compatible with a range of devices from Netflix’s initial collaborators, including Amazon Fire TV Streaming Media Players, Chromecast with Google TV, LG TVs, Nvidia Shield TV, Roku devices and TVs, Samsung Smart TVs, and Walmart ONN.

By broadening the availability of games across various devices, Netflix aspires to “make gaming a more accessible and enjoyable experience for members globally”. The company is enthusiastic about the new service and hopes it will be successful.

There is no official release date for the new feature so we might have to wait a while until it is available globally. If successful, it could let Netflix users experience TV shows, movies, documentaries and games, all on the same platform.
