With Dota: Dragon’s Blood Book 3 being released today, the storyline development of the main protagonists such as Davion & Mirana has progressed further. However, the newest season also focuses on Filomena, the daughter of Invoker and Selemene which was revealed to the audience during Book 1 of the animated series. Filomena is also revealed to be the primary reason behind Invoker’s isolation and sorrow as shown in Book 1 which was released in March 2021 and became the motivation behind Invoker’s resolve to save her daughter in the previous two seasons. In Book 3, Filomena is seen as a key character in the latter episodes of the series.

Who Is Filomena?

In Dota: Dragon’s Blood Book 1 in the "Speak the Words" episode, Filomena is revealed to be the daughter of Invoker & Selemene, the goddess of the moon in the Dota universe. It also revealed the reasoning behind the Invoker’s isolation and sorrow which includes his toxic relationship with Selemene & his efforts of saving his daughter after contracting a deadly rash after being seperated from Selemene.

Despite Invoker agreeing to Selemene’s terms in an attempt to save his daughter, Filomena herself refuses the goddesses' terms as she wanted to obtain familial love instead of one-sided devotion, in which the goddess of the moon cannot provide. This lead to Selemene leaving both her ex-lover and daughter to their own fates, as Filomena succumbs to her diseases and leading Invoker to avenge her fallen daughter by unleashing fury onto the goddess and taking his revenge in the Book 1’s finale episode, "A Game of Chess.”

But in return, this releases Terrorblade to wreak havoc in Book 2. Filomena was continued to be referred to throughout Book 2 by both Invoker & Selemene, but she was never shown on-screen throughout the second season of the animated series.

Is Filomena a Hero in Dota 2?

Currently, no. But it could be a possibility in the future considering Valve added Marci as a playable character as the character gained a lot of attention after her appearance in Book 1.

Filomena as a key character in Book 3 (Book 3 Spoilers Ahead)

With the premiere of Book 3 today, Dota: Dragon’s Blood has also released additional lore regarding Filomena if she was alive in an alternate universe, which is canon in both Dragon’s Blood and Dota 2 as revealed by Artifact’s Twitter account. In the 1st episode, Invoker allies with the protagonist’s party of Davion, Mirana, Luna and Kaden to defeat Terrorblade in Foulfell.

Following the main protagonist's victory over Terrorblade in his domain of Foulfell in the 2nd episode “Hell of Hells”, Invoker activates a spell which creates an alternate universe in which he manages to save Filomena and watches her grow in the latter episodes which includes her becoming a researcher under her father’s guidance and her development as a key character to aid the protagonist’s party in the both realities as the Mad Moon approaches as part of Invoker’s experiment to save Filomena in the previous two seasons.

Although she succeeded in foiling her father’s plans with the aid of the protagonists on the finale episode “Consider Phlebas”, her disease remains incurable and forces Mirana to restore the reality that she came from in the first place, while allowing the death of characters such as Davion & Marci to become permanent again and Filomena to never exist until adulthood.

At the end of the finale, a hooded figure who was teased to possibly be Filomena was seen repairing the tower where Invoker once resides as it was shown that the scars from the disease were visible. With alternate realities being canon in Dota 2, it opens up the possibility of Filomena to appear in Dota 2 as a playable character.
