All excess items you pick up while discovering the world of Starfield can be stored on your ship.
By completing quests and other ingame missions, you can upgrade your ship's storage capacity.

Bethesda's latest action-packed RPG, Starfield, is jam-packed with menus, making navigating through them a challenge in itself. If you're playing the title, you know how this can become a hassle, given how limited inventory space you have, especially when you start out. Learning everything about storage and how you can store items on your ship can help you save time and explore the immersive world of Starfield.

Using Your Ship To Store Items

Captain's Locker

With infinite items to pick in Starfield, your ship's cargo is going to come in handy. You can open your ship's cargo either by opening your data menu, choosing Starship Panel (Bottom Left), and then Cargo Hold or by physically interacting with it. All items which are stored on your ship will be shown here, and you can manage them here.

In order to store items on your ship, press Q or LB to see your inventory and choose the items that you do want to hold anymore. You can place as many items as you want as long as you don't exceed your ship's cargo capacity. The capacity for each ship model can be different.

Be sure to check your inventory before you store items, as you can accidentally take items from your ship instead of storing them.

Is There a Limit on How Many Times You Can Store?

Yep! Your ship storage has a "Mass" limit. It's a lot higher than what your pockets can hold as you explore plants. Your first ship in the game has a mass limit of 450, which is three times your normal storage.

However, if you're someone who's picking everything in sight as you travel through planets, you'll hit your ship storage limit soon. It's important to use your storage smartly, but there are multiple ways to increase your ship storage.

How To Increase Ship Storage Capacity?

If you're not able to store more items on your ship, it's time to increase your ship capacity, and there are multiple ways to go about it.

Firstly, with the help of Ship Technicians, you can add additional cargo spaces to your ship. You can also buy a new ship with a higher storage capacity, steal a ship, or work towards the Payload perk to give a boost to your ship's storage capacity.

You'll be surprised to know, but completing faction missions such as the Freestar Rangers quest can give a 2,200-storage capacity! That's more than enough to help you progress through the later stages of the game.

That's everything you need to know about storing items on your ship! This will come in handy if you're a faction member and want to become the ultimate space pirate, smuggling items across the Starfield universe.
