Starfield allows you to build outposts across the many star systems for easy access to the game’s giant universe. You can use these outposts to mine rare resources and use them as a stepping stone for further exploration. To build and place an outpost in Starfield is not that time consuming. Here is all you need to know about how to place an outpost in Starfield after you’ve built it.
How to place an outpost in Starfield?
You’ll have access to building outposts in Starfield right after you deliver the artifact to Constellation at the start of the game. Once you find a good location, get your hand scanner out by pressing the F key (default for PC players). You can now press the R key (default for PC) and place an outpost beacon. This beacon confirms the position of your outpost.
You start with seven outpost beacons in your inventory. If you put points into Planetary Habitation you can get up to 24 outpost beacons.
Once you’re done with this, you can now build whatever structures you want to build. You can go for a resource extractor and an energy source to mine a particular type of resource on the planet where you set up your outpost. You may want to build storage in your outpost for loot that you collect or use it as a base of operations for you and your crew.
Where you build your outpost depends on what resources you want to mine. If you build an outpost too far away from your home base, you’ll have a hard time collecting the resources since you’ll have to set up a more elaborate cargo link systems. Also make sure you look at the climate of a planet before putting up an outpost. Harsh conditions can drain player health. You should be strategic when putting up your outposts, spreading them out enough to access rare resources, while also keeping them close enough to home.
How to rename your outpost in Starfield
If you want to rename your outpost in Starfield, go to the outpost beacon and press the R key (default for PC). You can now enter a name for the outpost and confirm it by pressing enter. Make sure you don’t hold down R when you’re trying to rename your outpost, since doing so will delete the outpost, moving all the contents into your inventory and then you'll have to start again.
