This guide will walk you through the methods to obtain Shielded Cargo for your ship, ensuring you can transport contraband without raising suspicion.

Contraband items are easily spotted by authorities in settled systems, such as the Alpha Centauri, and getting caught can lead to dire consequences. Shielded Cargo offers a solution to this problem by reducing the chances of scanners detecting illicit goods onboard. To secure your financial interests and avoid trouble, follow these steps to get Shielded Cargo for your ship.
Finding Shielded Cargo
For an early-game solution to acquiring Shielded Cargo, your destination is the Porrima Star System. Follow these steps to secure your Shielded Cargo Hold:
Head to Porrima III within the Porrima Star System.
Seek out a bustling gambling establishment known as the Red Mile.
Inside the Red Mile, locate Lon Anderson.
Engage Lon in conversation and express your desire to view and modify your ships.
Enter ship-building mode and navigate to the Cargo section within Lon's inventory.
Choose Your Shielded Cargo Hold
Within the Cargo section, you'll discover various Cargo Holds, including the coveted Shielded Cargo Holds. Choose the one that suits your needs, considering factors such as capacity and price. Among the options, you'll find the 100CM Ballast Shielded Cargo Hold, priced at 1425 credits and possessing a mass limit of 48. Alternatively, the Caravel V101 Shielded Cargo Hold is available for 2470 credits, offering a mass limit of 52.
Once you've selected your desired Shielded Cargo Hold, make the purchase and attach it to your ship. Confirm the modification, and you're ready to transport Contraband without fear of immediate detection.
Enhance Your Evasion Chances
It's important to note that Shielded Cargo Holds do not guarantee complete immunity from scans. To further bolster your chances of evading detection, consider installing Scan Jammers on your ship. Lon Anderson also offers these valuable items for sale.
Managing Contraband
Storing Contraband in your Shielded Cargo Hold is a seamless process. Simply place Contraband items in your regular Cargo Hold as you would normally. The Shielded Cargo Hold will automatically take over the storage of Contraband, sparing you the need for manual transfers. However, be mindful of the mass limit of your Shielded Cargo Hold; exceeding it may result in Contraband spilling into the regular Cargo Hold, potentially exposing it to scans.
