Rockruff is one of the many species from the Alola region currently featured in Pokemon Go. Unlike some other Pokemon, all of Rockruff’s evolutions are not available in the game. However, you can get all of Rockruff’s currently available forms by grinding for Rockruff candies. Here are all the Rockruff evolutions in Pokemon Go that are currently in the game, and how to get them.
How to get Rockruff in Pokemon Go
Rockruff is a Rock-type Pokémon weak to Fighting, Grass, Ground, Steel, and Water-type moves. Rockruff has a Max CP of 1074 in Pokémon GO and they are boosted by Partly Cloudy weather. Shiny Rockruff is currently available in Pokémon GO.
There are a few ways you can get access to Rockruff, which is the base form of the Pokemon’s evolution. You will need to catch Rockruff and defeat it in a 1-Star Raid to obtain it. There is a chance you will hatch a Rockruff by incubating a 10km Egg in Pokemon Go. Unfortunately, players won’t be able to catch a Rockruff in the wild.
How to evolve Rockruff into Midnight Lycanroc in Pokemon Go
Evolving Rockruff into Midnight Lycanroc requires you to use 50 Rockruff Candy. You will also need to evolve your Rockruff at night to make sure you get the Midnight variant of Lycanroc. Note that it should be night time in the game. If you’re unsure, simply check the sky in-game, it will be dark during the night.
How to evolve Rockruff into Midday Lycanroc in Pokemon Go
As you may have guessed, to evolve Rockruff into a Midday Lycanroc you will still need to use 50 Candy but evolve it during the day. As before, look at the in-game sky for the right time to evolve your Pokemon.
Unfortunately, the Dusk Lycanroc form is not available in Pokemon Go as of now, but the Dusk Lycanroc files have been found in the game, so the Dusk evolution may be heading to the game soon.
Pokemon Go: Midday Lycanroc vs Midnight Lycanroc
Since Rockruff are rare, many players find it hard to decide which evolution path to go for. Both the Midday and Midnight Lycanroc are pure Rock-type Pokemon with similar stats. While the Midnight version has a lower Attack stat, it compensates for it with higher Defensive and Stamina stats. The Midnight version also has a better moveset with the Fast Move Counter and Charged Move Psychic Fangs being great options to choose from.
However, neither form is really a top-tier rock type. It's about on-par with Aurorus and Landorus Incarnate (yes, even though it's not a Rock type), and is outclassed by stuff like Aerodactyl, Tyranitar, Gigalith, Tyrantrum, Rhyperior, and Rampardos. However, realistically neither form has much use in the Go Battle League. Lycanrocs are not really top-tier when it comes to rock type Pokemon. According to PvPoke, Midnight Lycanroc ranks 350th in the Great League, while Midday Lycanroc ranks 848th.
