Highlights
Medusa can be found in the Caliginous Depths Cave, located in the Southwestern direction of the city of Bakbattahl.
If your first encounter at the caves happens to be unsuccessful, you may also attempt it later, as Medusa will respawn eventually.
You may also attempt “An Eye for an Eye”, “Getting a Head” Silver trophies, and the “Off with Its Head!” Bronze trophy during this fight.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 encompasses numerous deadly foes that you will encounter on your journey through Vermund, Battahl, and their surrounding regions. Besides encountering mini-bosses like Ogres, Cyclops, and Golems, you will also be tasked with defeating the formidable Medusa, known for petrifying enemies with just her glare.

Although you fight this monster at the beginning of the game, it is not until later that you can actually execute her and take her head as a trophy. Without further ado, here’s how you can decapitate Medusa in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Here’s How You Can Decapitate Medusa in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Although many players will expect to behead Medusa during their initial encounter, the game prevents you from doing so, and you will have to wait until you advance further through the story to gain access to this fight. Specifically, it involves gaining access to Bakbattahl, the capital city of Battahl, and traversing in the southwestern direction until you reach the caves named Caliginous Depths.

However, before you embark on a mission to kill the mythical snake monster, there are a few prerequisites you need to keep in mind.

Caliginous Depths

Switch to the Warrior Vocation

To have a definite chance at decapitating Medusa, we recommend players swap their Vocation to Warrior, as Arisens in this class can wield a Greatsword, allowing players to carry out powerful strikes while also enduring enemy counterattacks.

To switch to the Warrior Vocation, you need to finish the Vocation Frustration quest that is available at the Guild in Vernworth. Although other sword-wielding classes like Fighters, and Warfarers will likely do the job, the damage dealt by Warriors will leave no chance for Medusa to escape.

Level Requirements and Loadouts

Although Dragon’s Dogma 2 grants you the freedom to venture out to most open areas, you need to know that hunting down Medusa’s lair is a high-level task and requires the best of weapons and abilities from your arsenal. For starters, we recommend hoarding Panacea elixirs as they will cure all debilitations along with restoring health and stamina.

If you possess the Ring of Motility, make sure to assign it to your Main Pawn as it provides 100% resistance to Medusa’s Petrification. If your pawn happens to possess the Chirurgeon specialization, they will also aid your Arisen and other pawns in the party by offering various curatives.

Beheading Medusa

Before you make your way into the snake monster’s lair, you need to be aware of her two main attacks, the evident one being the Petrifying Glare, which will make her eyes glow red and blast a laser beam, that will turn your Arisen and Pawns into stone if you get caught in its path. While her freezing attack is the most powerful of the bunch, the huge slithering snake can also hurl arrows at you and your allies that explode upon impact.

Petrifying Glare

Thankfully, you quickly get acquainted with these moves and the preparations you made during your fight will come in handy, if in case you get caught up in her attacks. Considering that Medusa is a relatively slow-moving target, you can sneak away without facing her, climb on the snake’s back, and unleash several slashes on her head with the Greatsword. If you are unsure whether your attacks are targeting her noggin, look out for purple blood splashing out along with her snake hair falling off.

After several consecutive strikes, Medusa will get stunned and fall flat on her face, allowing you to slash away at her head. Two or three heavy strikes will finish the job, successfully decapitating this deadly monster, and completing achievements such as “An Eye for an Eye”, “Getting a Head”, and “Off with Its Head!” in the process.

To use her head as a weapon, you need to equip it from your inventory and select the Brandish option. As the spoils for this mighty battle, you will also be rewarded with Granite Medusa Bone Material and Medusan Spellbow.
