Ready or Not finally received its full release on 13th December and PC gamers are excited to get their hands on it.
The following guide will provide you with possible solutions to fix Ready or Not from crashing on Startup.
Make sure you disable and delete any installed mods, as it seems to be the main reason behind the crash for several players.

Void Interactive’s tactical first-person shooter, Ready or Not has finally received its full release after being put in Steam’s early access program for almost two years. This game is exclusive to PC and considered a spiritual successor to the SWAT series and has received several praises for its setting and gameplay. However, the game still seems to have a few niggles that needs to be sorted out. One infamous issue is the game crashing on launch, especially if you have installed mods. Here are the possible solutions to fix this persistent problem.

How to Fix Ready or Not From Crashing on Startup?

Verify Game File Integrity

You may encounter persistent crashing if your game files are corrupt. Head into your Steam library, click on Ready or Not, and open the game’s Steam page. Click on the gear icon and select properties. Head into the Installed Files tab and click on Verify Integrity of game files.

Delete Any Installed Mods

As mentioned before, modding the game seems to cause instability which ultimately leads to crashes. Make sure you uninstall any mods along with the .pak folder if necessary. Follow these steps:

  • Navigate to  C:/Users/Public/mod.io/3791/mods and delete them.

  • Head to  %appdata% > local > ReadyorNot > Saved > Paks and delete the mod files and folders.

  • You can also delete mod files by heading to  steamapps\common\Ready Or Not\ReadyOrNot\Content\Paks

Update Graphic Drivers

Head into your GPU manufacturer’s official page, select your graphic card’s model, and download the latest drivers. Here are the driver update pages for Nvidia and AMD. Make sure you download the right drivers depending on your Windows version.

Update your Windows Version

It might be possible that Windows is also the culprit stopping you from launching Ready or Not. Make sure you are running on the latest version by heading into settings and selecting the Windows update tab. Click on Check for Updates and install the latest version.

Temporarily Disable Antivirus

Head into Settings > Update and Security > Windows Security > Virus and Threat Protection > Manage Settings and turn off Real-Time Protection. You might also want to turn off Reputation-based Protection from the App and Browser Control tab. If you have any third-party security software installed, make sure to disable that as well.

Close Background Apps and Tasks

Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc at the same time. Check for any unwanted apps or programs running in the background,  right-click on it, and select End Task. Make sure you do not accidentally close your system tasks which might crash your entire PC.

Fresh Installation of Ready or Not

Performing a clean installation will remove any discrepancies present in your previous game files. You can do so directly from Steam by heading to the library, right-clicking on the game from the list, and clicking on Manage > Uninstall. To make sure all your files are completely removed, do the following:

  • Head to Steam > Steamapps > Common > Delete "ReadyorNot"

  • Navigate to %appdata% > local and  delete the "ReadyorNot" folder

Re-install the game after this process and check if that resolves the issue. You can also try running the game in different compatibility modes and run it as an Administrator by right-clicking clicking on the game’s .exe file, selecting properties, and heading into the compatibility tab.
