Reports have surfaced online that the full source code of Rockstar Games’ GTA 5 has been leaked. The massive leak contains details about the developer’s other unreleased titles, including Bully 2 and GTA 6.
Complete GTA 5 Source Code Gets Leaked
There's no doubt that it's been a hard time for Rockstar with leakers and hackers in recent times. From the Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) trailer dropping much earlier than intended to various leaks surrounding the upcoming title, it's been difficult for the developer to keep its projects undercover.
According to popular YouTuber SKizzle, the GTA 5 leaked source code and related information was shared on a Discord server. The message contained a link to download the source code for GTA 5, which was then quickly taken down.
However, that didn't stop the floodgates from opening, as those who got the link already started sharing it. The source code leak is around 4GB in size and includes numerous files from the RAGE engine, concept, and reference images. It even contains a Python script from the unreleased GTA 6, which seems insignificant for now.
This leak isn't exactly new, as it originally came from the 2022 GTA 6 leaks, where the leaker managed to get a hold of GTA 5's source code, but a major part was kept private. The other parts were sold between close people who could benefit from the codes, with the prices rumored to have been as high as 50,000 USD.
Furthermore, the leaked files contain information about Bully 2 and GTA 6, providing insight into Rockstar Games' future projects.
The gaming community has widely condemned perpetrators of these violations. TGG, one of the top GTA 5 YouTubers, posted on X reacting to the GTA 5 source code leaks.
These leaks are significant as they could have serious consequences not just for Rockstar Games but also for GTA players since the source code can be used by hackers to exploit vulnerabilities in the game.
Rockstar Games has yet to make an official statement regarding the GTA 5 leaks. However, fans are urged to refrain from spreading the source code further and appreciate the work put in by developers to create these titles.
