Here is how to apply for a Fortnite refund request.

Fortnite developer and publisher Epic Games settled for $520 million with the American FTC (Federal Trade Commission), over allegations that players, parents were tricked into making purchases. Fortnite refund requests are being granted to customers who are eligible and apply within the stipulated deadline. There are certain guidelines the FTC has laid out about who is eligible for the $245 million in compensation. Here is all you need to know about how to apply for a Fortnite Refund Request.

Fortnite Refund Request: Am I eligible?

There are some stipulations to getting a refund. The FTC said, in a statement, that you could now apply for a refund if any of these things are true:

  • You were charged in-game currency for items you didn’t want between January 2017 and September 2022.

  • Your child made charges to your credit card without your knowledge between January 2017 and November 2018.

  • Your account was locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after you complained to your credit card company about wrongful charges.

  • You have to be at least 18 years old to file a refund claim.

You can file that claim at www.fortniterefund.com/file-a-claim. You will also need a claim number or your Epic Account ID. To find your Epic Account ID, go to the www.epicgames.com.

  • Click on Sign-in in the top right corner.

  • Sign in to your Epic Games account.

  • Hover over your Epic Games account name and click on Account.

  • Your account ID is listed under Account Information.

Navigate to the site and fill in your details. Note that the deadline to file a claim is 17th January, 2024, so make sure to apply before then.

The FTC lawsuit against Epic Games

In a complaint first announced in December 2022, the American Federal Trade Commission alleged that Epic games deployed a variety of design tricks aimed at getting consumers of all ages to make unintended in-game purchases. The claim further stated that the ‘company also made it easy for children to rack up charges without parental consent and locked the accounts of consumers who disputed unauthorized charges with their credit card companies’.

The settlement was finalized in March 2023 with Epic Games over allegations that the Fortnite video game maker used dark patterns and other deceptive practices to trick players into making unwanted purchases. The FTC began notifying more than 37 million people by email that they may be eligible for compensation, a process that will take one month to complete.
