Leaker j0nathan on X provided an update stating they never explicitly mentioned that Cillian Murphy was cast in Far Cry 7, and the images mean “something else.”
Cillian Murphy has previously worked in the video game industry, credited for his roles as Dr. Jonathan Crane in 2005’s "Batman Begins" and Tommy Shelby in 2020’s "Peaky Blinders: Mastermind."

Rumors regarding the next Far Cry game have been on the rise as we approach the next Ubisoft Forward event on 10th June 2024. Yesterday, YouTuber and Streamer j0nathan, posted cryptic images hinting at Cillian Murphy’s involvement in Far Cry 7, sparking various theories among fans and other leakers. However, j0nathan followed up his original post with an update, clarifying that they never mentioned that the actor was in the game, and the image of Cillian Murphy means “something else.”

Everything We Know About Far Cry 7 So Far

The follow-up post by the leaker says “Mind you, I NEVER said Cillian Murphy was going to be in the game. The image means something else.” For those unaware, j0nathan has a pretty credible track record for providing accurate details of Assassin’s Creed games in the past, which has earned him the trust of Ubisoft fans. However, it’s important to note that the four cryptic images could potentially mean anything, as there was no written description provided by the leaker.

Ubisoft is no stranger to featuring famed Hollywood actors in its Far Cry games, including Giancarlo Esposito for Far Cry 6, and Michael Mando in Far Cry 3. While it would certainly be a treat to watch Cillian as the next Far Cry villain, it seems highly unlikely, given that the Academy Award-winning actor is probably in high demand within the film industry.

Besides j0nathan’s cryptic images, several unofficial details regarding the story, setting, and certain gameplay features of Far Cry 7 have been leaked over the years. Information about the upcoming Far Cry games was first revealed in 2023 through a 4chan post which has since been deleted.

This post unveiled that Fay Cry 7 would be called “Far Cry: Rise” and will continue to follow a tropical Island setting, this time next to the Kimsan Yellow Sea of Korea. North Korean Insurgents will supposedly take over the island and the post also mentioned that Actor Lee Jung-Jae from the popular Squid Game series will play the Villain Choi Sang-Pil.

However, with the latest post, many fans were led to believe that Cillian Murphy will take over as the villain for Far Cry 7. Several other rumors also surpassed the 4chan post, stating that the game will feature a linear storyline, where you must rescue your family members from the insurgent group called “Sons of Truth”.

You will be given 72 in-game hours to complete the plot, which apparently translates to 24 real-time hours, with safe houses acting as a way to pause the timer. In addition to Far Cry 7 codenamed Project Blackbird, Ubisoft is also reportedly working on a multiplayer Far Cry game called Project Maverick.

Far Cry 7 is supposedly targeting a 2025 release, but as always, there has been no official confirmation from Ubisoft or other credible sources, so please take the aforementioned information with a grain of salt. That being said, the upcoming Ubisoft Forward event may showcase their list of upcoming games, including the next Far Cry.
