Although Ubisoft made no announcements for the next Far Cry in its June 2023 Showcase, it did not stop fans from speculating about the next game. Ubisoft’s last Far Cry game was released in 2021. Despite its mixed reviews, the game contains the core elements of what the Far Cry series has represented so far. With Far Cry 6, Ubisoft aimed to bring the game back to its roots with a tropical Island setting called Yara. It featured several mechanics from Far Cry 3 which is considered to be one of the best open-world games of all time. According to rumors, the next Far Cry game will also feature a tropical island called Kimsan located by the Yellow Sea.
What we know about Far Cry 7 so far
On 28th July, there was a 4chan post by an anonymous insider, speculating that the newest Far Cry 7 will be set in Korea. It was first spotted by Reddit user DudeWithName with their post on r/GamingLeaksAndRumours. Since then, The original 4chan post has been removed and all that remains is a screenshot from the post which mentions several details including the setting, the villain, and the addition of an extraction mode.
According to the post, the next Far Cry 7 will be called Far Cry: Rise which will take place on a fictional island in the Yellow Sea called Kimsan. This game also seems to follow a tropical island setting similar to Far Cry 6’s Island of Yara. The island has been taken over by North Korean Insurgents with the villain named Choi Sang-Pil who will be played by Actor Lee Jung-Jae from the popular Squid Game Series.
Similar to Far Cry 6, Far Cry: Rise will also feature a male and a female protagonist named Andrew or Mina Park who are Korean Idols who must learn to survive and save their sibling from the hold of the insurgents. The post also hints at the possibility of multiple storylines by stating:
“From the conflicts you decide to engage in down to the allies or foes you meet along the way, Rise to the challenge and choose how the story of Far Cry: Rise unfolds.”
It also states that the campaign will feature up to 4 player co-op which is unlike the previous Far Cry which only allowed one player to join the campaign co-op missions. This hints at a Ghost Recon: Wildlands type of gameplay experience.
Furthermore, the game will also happen to include an extraction-type gameplay mode called Far Cry: Conquest that allows 90 other players or AI to battle it out and be the first to get extracted from the island. Players of Escape From Tarkov will be familiar with this extraction shooter gameplay mode.
That is pretty much it for the leaks and rumors about the latest Far Cry 7. Please take this with a grain of salt as it is information from an anonymous source and Ubisoft is yet to make an official announcement.
