One of the newest FPS (first person shooter) games to debut its beta test was The Finals. The game show-esque battle royale adds a fresh new take to the now-tired Battle Royale genre. The Finals recently concluded a very successful beta test, with the game’s open beta player count surpassing that of Call of Duty on Steam. With the The Finals set to be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, players are left wondering if The Finals has aim assist enabled.
The Finals aim assist explained
Aim assist is a staple of many FPS games that come to the console to compensate for the different physical mechanics of playing on the PC versus a controller. With aim assist enabled, your reticle can track enemies’ hitboxes much easier and make it less difficult to aim at enemies while playing with controller sticks. While this sounds simple enough, there is still a debate in the gaming community about the competitive integrity of aim assist, especially in the esports space. The Finals currently has aim assist for both PC and console. Since the game supports crossplay, aim assist is available for a smoother experience for both PC and console players.
There are two main components of aim assist in The Finals:
Slowdown: This decreases your aim/look sensitivity when your crosshair is near an enemy target.
Rotation: This rotates your aim/crosshair slightly to help track and lock onto targets.
Aim assist is beneficial to controller users as it increases the margin for error and makes it easier to snap your reticle onto an opponent’s hitbox without having to make too many micromovements. Since the mouse and keyboard allows you to aim more precisely than a controller, aim assist is generally seen as leveling the playing field.
However, players were quick to figure out that they are able to enable aim assist by simply plugging in a compatible controller while still using their mouse to aim.
The Finals is expected to release during 2023, with a likely release date in December. The developers are yet to officially address this issue, however, given the studio’s prompt bug response times, players expect the issue to be patched before the game’s official release. The Finals will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. However, as The Finals is a next-gen game, it will not be available on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. The Open Beta was available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on Steam.
