South Park: Snow Day! takes the series in a bold new direction by introducing rogue-like hack-and-slash elements into its gameplay, offering an enticing third-person action experience for its players. Besides switching up its combat mechanics, this marks the franchise’s first foray into showcasing full-fledged multiplayer co-op, where you can team up with three more friends and advance through the game’s campaign. Does South Park: Snow Day! Feature Local Co-op on One System?
Unfortunately, South Park: Snow Day! Does not support local co-op of any kind. The multiplayer option is limited to the online co-op mode, which is done either by hosting a session or joining another player’s party through the game’s Matchmaking menu. This means that although it is available on consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, it does not come with the option to play split-screen multiplayer with your friends.
Even though online multiplayer gaming has been the norm for quite a while, this is certainly a missed opportunity by the devs and publisher at THQ Nordic, as this would have captivated the audience looking for the perfect co-op game to play with their friends. If local co-op is the main reason you are looking forward to picking up South Park: Snow Day!, we recommend you to check out other titles like A Way Out, It Takes Two, and Overcooked 2, as all these titles come with the option to do so.
However, if you are looking forward to playing a hilarious yet action-packed third-person game with your mates and are used to playing online co-op, South Park: Snow Day! does make a solid case for itself, especially if you are a fan of Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s successfully running show.
The online co-op option in the game works seamlessly and can be accessed right after completing the tutorial phase. You can host a session or jump into a party with any player in your friend list, however, you need to know that South Park: Snow Day! does not feature crossplay, so you would have to be on the same platform to play together.
