Mortal Kombat 1 is set to launch a new era for the fighting game series, but players wonder if the reboot will support crossplay.
NetherRealm Studios have confirmed crossplay would not be available at Mortal Kombat 1's launch, but the feature is still coming.

In the modern gaming era, there are a few features that players expect to come as standard. One such feature is crossplay; being able to play with your friends no matter the platform has become quite normal. We've seen live-service titles like Fortnite, Call of Duty, and other games include it, but players are wondering, does Mortal Kombat 1 have crossplay?

With the return of the best fighting series, players want to play against their friends on different platforms. So, here's everything you need to know about Mortal 1 Kombat crossplay and whether it's possible or not.

Does Mortal Kombat 1 Have Crossplay at Launch?

Unfortunately, there's no crossplay feature for Mortal Kombat 1 at the launch between Steam and Epic Games Stores, and it's the same case for Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. This was confirmed by NetherRealm Studios on X.

When Will Mortal Kombat 1 Have Crossplay?

While there's no crossplay feature available at launch for Mortal Kombat 1, it's expected to be added post-launch, confirmed with an answer on the FAQs page of Mortal Kombat. NetherRealm Studios has not exactly said when we can expect the feature, but the team is working hard to implement it.

It's still unclear which platforms would even get the crossplay feature when NetherRealm Studios actually implements it. It's going to be a shame if we go through the same route as Mortal Kombat 11 and make it between Xbox and PlayStation only. Other fighting games, such as Street Fighter 6 and Guilty Gear Survive, have enabled crossplay between PC and console. Tekken's next entry plans to do the same when it comes out in January.

How Does Crossplay and Cross-Platform Work?

One of the biggest features of fighting games is fighting against other players regardless of their platform, and crossplay allows you to do that. For Mortal Kombat 1, we can expect this feature to work just like it does in other titles. Players who have the game will be paired up against others regardless of their platforms. It's speculated that it will work like recent games where you can choose to opt between crossplay and cross-platform. Keep in mind that there's no official confirmation from NetherRealm Studios, so things can still change!
