Detective Pikachu Returns is the long-awaited sequel to the popular Detective Pikachu game that was initially released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2016. The game features the same coffee-loving Detective Pikachu and Tim Goodman as they come together once again to solve the mysteries occurring in Ryme City, where humans and Pokémon live in harmony. The game was initially announced in 2019 alongside a press release for apps like Pokémon Home and such. The official trailer for Detective Pikachu Returns was showcased at the Nintendo Direct event that occurred on 21st June.
Detective Pikachu Returns Plot and Gameplay
The game once again follows the life of Tim Goodman and Pikachu who seems to have the voice of a middle-aged man. Together, this duo attempts to solve the mysteries that occur in the city of Ryme albeit with help from other Pokémon. There are no gameplay videos available at the time of writing this article, but we can be sure to see several elements from the first game such as investigating scenes, finding potential clues, and interacting with people to uncover new secrets. The game also features a slew of Pokémon including the legendary Mewtwo.

If we take a look at the official page for Detective Pikachu Returns, we can see that there might be a possibility for the game to feature a swap between Pikachu and Tim Goodman which was not possible in the first game. Although the trailer looks a little rough around the edges, we can expect the game to feature improved graphics as it is now exclusively available on the Nintendo Switch rather than the original 3DS.
