Dead Island: Back From The Dead
Dead Island 2 was the widely anticipated (and delayed) sequel to the 2011 video game Dead Island. Dead Island first came into the limelight when the cinematic announcement trailer for the first game dropped in February 2011. The trailer was controversial for the depiction of a zombie child but also well-received for its emotional impact, animation and storytelling. While the actual game received a generally lukewarm review, the trailer was seen as a benchmark for future announcement trailers.
A sequel to Dead Island was first announced in 2014 with another iconic trailer dropping at E3 2014.
The sequel was originally scheduled for a Q2 2015 release but Deep Silver dropped it to develop Dying Light with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. After years of delays, the game was finally picked up again for development by Dambuster Studios, an internal studio of Deep Silver.
Dead Island 2 comes out a decade after Riptide and takes place 15 years after the events of the first game. The game features a new cast of survivors in quarantined Los Angeles under a newer and stronger zombie outbreak. The game received better reviews than its predecessors and picked up a “Best Action Game" nomination at The Game Awards 2023.
