Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 Update Pays Homage to the Characters of Cyberpunk Edgerunners
Cyberpunk 2077’s much-awaited 2.0 update is finally here and several fans are overjoyed to get immersed in the world of Night City once again. It could possibly be one of the biggest updates to the game with overhauls to several gameplay elements such as the police system, redesigned skill trees, and perks, the inclusion of vehicular combat, etc. Along with these slew of changes, the devs have also added memorials for some of the most fan-favorite characters from the Edgerunners anime. If you are still working your way through the show, you must know that this article will contain a few spoilers. Readers' discretion is advised.
How Does Cyberpunk 2077 Tribute the Edgerunners Anime?
Twitter user @Dusty_2077 posted images of various Holograms, each of them representing one or more characters from the anime. It consists of a Symbol that represents the character along with a few lines underneath it, which could possibly even bring a tear to your eye.
There have been six such holograms found so far and many fans are speculating whether there are more of these present in the game. Here are these aforementioned lines by these characters:
Rebecca: I regret not finishing our conversation.
Pilar, Dorio, Maine: You were the only family I ever had.
David Martinez: You didn’t take me to the moon, but you were there with me.
Gloria Martinez: You were right. David reached the top of Arasaka Tower.
Kiwi: You taught me to never trust anyone in NC.
Julia: He blew us away with his enthusiasm.
These lines clearly address various characters present in the anime. For example, David’s lines clearly imply that it was Lucy who set up the entire memorial. A few of these lines especially the one said by Gloria (David’s mom) is certainly a tear-jerker. CD Projekt Red seems to know how to tug at the heartstrings of their fans. Since both the game and the anime belong to the same universe, one can assume that the events did have some impact on Night City.
Where Can You Find These Tributes in Cyberpunk 2077?
According to an article by TheGamer, the location of David’s memorial could be found if you head over to North Oak in Westbrook, Night City. However, it is unsure whether it is the same for the locations of all the other hologram memorials.
Apart from these memorials, there are also numerous references to these characters in the game’s skill trees and perks. Some Cyberware's abilities align with the skill set of David and his crew. Furthermore, you can also add various attributes if you want V to be based on one of these Edgerunner characters.
