Highlights
Mortal Kombat 1 has the possibility to run on the Steam Deck considering the fact that the previous title (MK 11) provides a solid 60 FPS gameplay on the handheld.
The Deck almost meets the system requirements for MK 1 which means that it might run the game on the lowest possible settings.

Mortal Kombat 1 will hit the shelves on 19th September for a variety of platforms such as the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Considering the fact that the game will be available on the Switch, you might be wondering if it is also supported on Valve’s Steam Deck. This is certainly a valid question as the previous Mortal Kombat 11 seems to run on the console with at least 60 FPS, albeit by tinkering with the Proton settings. Let’s take a look at all the possible options to run the game on the Deck.

Will Mortal Kombat 1 Be Playable on the Steam Deck?

Even though there has not been any official confirmation from Valve or from NetherRealm Studios, fans have been optimistic about the game running on the handheld, as it passes the minimum system requirements mentioned for Mortal Kombat 1 on the Steam Page.

If we take a look at Mortal Kombat 11, we can see that the handheld manages to run the game at a solid 60 FPS even on the highest settings. When comparing the minimum requirements for both MK 11 and MK 1, we can see that the latest title demands a newer processor and a GPU. Although the Steam Deck meets the requirements for the CPU, it does fall short when it comes to the GPU.

Considering this, we can conclude that the handheld has the potential to run the game using Proton but you might have to turn down the graphics to its lowest settings if you want to maintain a stable frame rate.

Keep in mind that there is no official confirmation for MK 1 running on the Steam Deck. We need to use Proton to run the game on the device and there is a huge possibility that you might run into compatibility issues due to the game’s Anti-cheat system. We hope to see more information as we are nearing the game’s release date of 19th September.

Alternate Ways to Run Mortal Kombat 1 on Steam Deck

The Steam Deck supports a client called Chiaki which allows the handheld to remotely run PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games on it. Check out Deck Wizard’s video which showcases the Deck streaming Mortal Kombat 1 using PS5 remote play.
