Highlights
Backgrounds in Starfield dictate which three skills you start off with and there are some fantastic early game options.
The Backgrounds do not matter long-term as the game does not have a level cap and you can potentially obtain every Skill.

Starfield’s Backgrounds give you access to three Skills to start off with and they can have a meaningful impact on your early game experience. Choosing the best Backgrounds is important for the first few hours but they ultimately do not matter. With no level cap in the game, you can essentially get every single perk in the game as long as you get enough XP for new Skill Points. You can safely choose whichever Background you want from our list, but our personal recommendations would be File Not Found and Combat Medic for beginners.
