Ubisoft’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed Mirage aims to take the series back to its roots by featuring the ancient city of Baghdad. This title was announced during a Ubisoft Forward event back in September 2022 along with three other interesting projects that will be part of the AC franchise. These are Hexe, Jade, and another mysterious project called Codename Red. While Mirage will soon hit the shelves on 5th October, the studio has not revealed much information about the other titles. However, this has not stopped fans of the series from speculating about these games and we have come across quite a bit of information, especially regarding Code Red. Let’s take a look.
When Will Assassin’s Creed Code Red Be Released?
Assassin’s Creed Red currently has a tentative release window set to Holiday 2024. Considering the fact that AC Mirage is releasing this October, it seems very unlikely that Ubisoft will launch Code Red the very next year after it. It is very much possible that the release date will be postponed, keeping in mind that we have only received a reveal trailer for the game so far.
Assassin’s Creed Code Red Setting and Characters
This title is certain to have little to no focus on modern-day environments as it is set in feudal Japan, similar to the popular 2020 title Ghost of Tsushima from SuckerPunch Studios. Further information from Insider Gaming, leads us to believe that we can take control of two different protagonists, a male samurai, and a female Shinobi. This seems like a possibility due to the fact that this project will be developed by Ubisoft Quebec under the leadership of Jonathan Dumont who was responsible for creating AC Syndicate and Odyssey.
The male Samurai is rumored to be an African refugee who sets foot in Japan and learns the ways of the brotherhood. Many are speculating this character to be based on Yasuke who was an African samurai during the Sengoku period. There might be elements of AC Syndicate present in the game where both the characters are related by blood.
Assassin’s Creed Code Red Gameplay Features
During the announcement of the game, Creative Director Jonathan Dumont said "The game will be the next evolution of Assassin's Creed's open-world RPG design and take players to the long-awaited setting of feudal Japan."
While the upcoming AC Mirage aims to stick to the formula of older titles in the franchise, Codename Red could feature a compelling RPG setting building upon Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. The game is also expected to feature stealth elements inspired by the Splinter Cell titles although it is not sure how it would affect its roleplaying components. While an improvement in graphics is predisposed, the title will supposedly feature destructible environments. One can also speculate that the two protagonists will have different gameplay styles similar to AC Syndicate, where the male character is more of a brute with heavy weapons and the female lead would focus more on abilities and equipment.
That is pretty much all there is to know about Codename Red. Note that most of this information is based on rumors spreading online, so please take it with a grain of salt.
