EA FC 24’s Team of the Year (TOTY) promo is one of the most anticipated events of the year. The promo is currently underway with this iteration including women’s teams for the first time. With players rushing to get their hands on the newly released cards, many players found themselves picking up the 97-rated Team of the Year Messi in an 86+ TOTY Leagues SBC. The Messi card, which is the most valuable of the pack, is supposed to be rare so many players were left wondering about the EA FC 24 TOTY glitch. However, on 30th January 2024, many players reported receiving the card. EA was quick to take action and ended up taking some measures as a result. Here is all you need to know about the EA FC 24 TOTY glitch giving everyone Messi.
EA FC 24 TOTY Glitch: Messi for everyone
The Lionel Messi card is one of the best, most valuable of the year, reaching nearly 10 million coins in value at the EA FC 24 auction house. Players can earn these coins by winning matches in the Ultimate Team mode or by trading on the marketplace and it takes a long time to earn enough coins to get the card. Here is the card for Lionel Messi (TOTY Edition).
So the EA FC 24 TOTY glitch giving out too many Messi cards has drastically impacted its value.
During the event, EA FC 24 Squad Building Challenge required players to create squads with relatively easy parameters. The reward was a Team of the Year card with a minimum rating of 86, and somehow, tons of players were awarded the valuable Messi card.
EA FC 24 takes down glitched SBC
Once the developers noticed the EA FC 24 TOTY Glitch they took the SBC offline. Both instances of giving so many players the Messi card and then deciding to take the SBC offline led to backlash from players since some players had more of a chance to get the Messi card with better odds. EA announced the SBC was taken offline in a tweet:
After taking it offline, EA addressed the issue in an update detailing what happened and the fix they have implemented. According to EA, the SBC was “live for 24 minutes, prior to its removal following the identification of a design issue” where ”an estimated 0.7% of Ultimate team players obtained a TOTY Messi item.”
As a solution for the issue, EA announced that players who completed this SBC while it was available will keep their rewards and that the SBC will not be returning as originally designed. The developers also added, “We know that this is not a perfect solution, and we will continue examining our processes with the aim of minimizing such issues in the future.”
