Blizzard recently organized the inaugural episode of the Campfire Chat series for Diablo 4, featuring key developers such as General Manager Rod Fergusson, Game Director Joe Shely, Associate Production Director Tiffany Wat, and Director of Community Adam Fletcher.

During the livestream, viewers were given an overview of what to expect in the game, which showcased numerous updates, enhancements, and additions designed to capture players' interest. Despite concerns about class tuning, performance issues, and quality-of-life improvements, the developers emphasized their commitment to maintaining a captivating and immersive gaming experience.

Major Points of Diablo 4 Campfire Chat

The stream commenced with a brief recap of the game's launch and the initial two weeks, during which players collectively contributed over 350 million hours of playtime and provided a plethora of comments. As a result, the development team has already implemented 8 to 9 client upgrades and 11 hotfixes. Furthermore, an extensive client patch, comprising 13 pages of information, is currently in progress.

The devs also talked about a lot of the topics discussed by the community in regards to feedback.

Nightmare Dungeons

Nightmare Dungeons are now easier to farm than side dungeons thanks to a few hotfixes. These are easier to grind through due to an increase in Elite enemy density and an increase in the XP awarded for completing a Nightmare Dungeon. The travel component of completing a Nightmare Dungeon will be eliminated in the future, specifically prior to the start of Season 1, thanks to a Sigil update that generates a waypoint to the dungeon entrance.

Inventory and Gems

In response to player dissatisfaction with the space occupied by Gems in their inventory, the developers have decided to move Gems to the materials area, entirely removing them from the inventory. However, players can still insert Gems into sockets and utilize them for crafting as usual. This upgrade is set to launch before Season 1 begins.

Renown Reset

With each new Season, Renown resets have been a topic of concern among players. In response, the developers have implemented a continuous evaluation process for Season 1. This is how the Season 1 reset will operate, which is noted as being a continual evaluation process:

  • Each zone will have will the first 2 Tiers of Renown completed as long as that was previously achieved.

  • Players won’t have to rediscover Altars of Lilith; all bonuses will carry over.

  • Map discovery will carry over.

  • You’ll need to finish a Region’s Renown bar to get your Paragon Points again.

  • Side quests will reset.

Addressing Bugs

A number of significant bugs have cropped up with so many people playing and the game being early in its life cycle. All bugs are currently under investigation, with fixes planned as soon as possible. Specifically mentioned were the Blighted Corpse Bug, the Druid Loot Table Bug, and Hardcore deaths.

  • Blighted Corpse Bug: Multiple ground AoE effects occur, one of which kills you.

  • Druids getting Barbarian loot instead of Druid loot.

  • Dying while teleporting in Hardcore.

  • Dying while supposed to be immune in Hardcore.

Along with the bug fixes, a planned update to the Scroll of Escape will act as a disconnect preventative for Hardcore players. If you have one in your inventory and you DC, it will automatically trigger, taking you away from danger. This will consume the scroll. Still needing to work everything out, the change isn’t expected to go live until Season 2 in the fall.

Finishing up with a Q&A segment, the most notable questions revolved around resource generation, teleporting to friends when grouping with them, customization options, and a completed quests tab in the journal.
